Haynes Hackett, a switchman for the Chicago Indianapolis & Louisville railroad, won a verdict of $30,000 damages after losing both legs when a train he was switching suddenly started. The judgment was returned today in Chicago.
A fire six miles east of Frankfort Indiana burned down a farmhouse and killed Albert Weaver a wealthy farmer. Robbery and gasoline explosion are both considered. Robert Howe the farm hand who lived with Weaver is missing and may have fled after the blaze. Police search for Howe after they visited Michigantown and could not confirm his return.
Robert Clements was arrested at Woods Mill for the murder of Tom Edmundson, his wife, and two children, then burned the house and barn. Mrs. Clements testified that Edmundson found the couple together, leading to a quarrel and the killings. She also said the mother and two children died and the buildings were burned the next night to hide the bodies.
