The state board announced operation of a rail line into Detroit starting March 1 after the return of road services. Officials stated the move aims to restore transportation links and improve freight and passenger options.
Samuel Rea president of the Pennsylvania system announced at a Detroit Real Estate board banquet that the railroad will operate freight and passenger trains into Detroit soon after March 1 when government control ends. He outlined an $8 million construction plan beyond $7 million already invested to complete lines into the city, with service to improve after permanent legislation provides a sound credit basis.
Accountants reviewing figures from the city electric light plant discussed the data with City officials and Cass County Chamber of Commerce representatives to secure adequate income while keeping rates fair. A Public Service commission representative will inspect the plant next week ahead of the January 26 hearing in the city.
The 249 undesirable aliens deported from the United States arrived aboard the Buford at Hango Finland and were moved to a special train for shipment to the Russian frontier. Marines and Finnish guards stood watch as they were herded to the train and isolated until reaching the frontier, expected late tomorrow.

Twenty two cities represented at the twentieth semiannual session of the Indiana conference of printers in Anderson Indiana Delegates attend with all conference officers present International secretary J W Hays wired he will be here tomorrow Tonight the session included initiation of 20 candidates for the Typographical Union Noble Order of Turkey Future business set for Sunday with a dinner and speakers Local publishers participate in planning the July session in Muncie and Michigan City.
Three Tribune typographical staff members will attend the semi annual meeting of the Typographical Unions of Indiana in Anderson today. Locals from across the state are expected to be represented. Blaine Miller Orlando Osborn Jay and John Wallace will leave for Anderson this morning.
The Better Farming association held yesterday in the main court room with over 70 farmers present. President T C Murden opened the meeting as Secretary Joseph Ireland.en outlined recent association work and forthcoming booklets. The group set a $3 membership to cover the head of family and immediate family with one vote per member and discussed secretary fees.
Chairman Walter Closson of the Republican county central committee reported Major Ed Jackson’s illness may prevent him from attending the Republican meeting at Red Men’s hall on Broadway. If he cannot come today, he may join later. the party plans to have gubernatorial candidates address Sunday meetings during the campaign.
Kokomo Indiana January 17 three are dead in a farm home fire caused by Walter Geyer attempting to start a blaze with kerosene. Edith Geyer age 33 and two children aged five and three died. Walter Geyer was seriously burned and may die. another child survived uninjured.
Admiral William Sims told a Senate sub committee that a letter he wrote to Secretary Daniels criticized Navy Department conduct in the Great War. He said he was told the United States would fight Britain as readily as Germany and that a high official delivered the remark. The hearing prompted plans for a wider inquiry into naval war conduct. Secretary Daniels said the letter was referred to the general.
Katherine Helms of Chicago offers for adoption a baby due within a month. Scores of applications have already been received. The educated musician is deserted by her husband and among seven siblings. Her parents would provide a home but lack funds to care for the child.
Early this morning at 12 25 the two story Crockett residence on the Burlington pike south of the city was destroyed by fire. Overheated stove caused the blaze which consumed the second floor with only partial furnishings saved. Loss estimated at about 9000 dollars. Fire departments struggled without water pressure and saved some first floor items while neighboring residents aided the family. A follow up flare up on a flue at Nineteenth and Jefferson was contained before major damage.
In Brooklyn Connecticut Victor Lipponena aged 38 a farmer killed three people wounded two and killed his four days old baby before hanging himself His first blows struck his wife who escaped by rolling from bed A neighbor woman was killed and her body crushed the infant He drove to two neighbors homes and killed a man before mortally wounding an 18 year old girl and likely her mother

Versailles reports Paul Deschanel elected president of the French republic by 734 votes of 889 in the national assembly. His victory follows a senate and chamber caucus choice and reflects a patriotic mood amid Clemenceau’s retirement. He is praised as a tactful, safe leader capable of authoritative speech for France.
Mexico objects to Mexicans testifying before the Senate subcommittee investigating Mexican affairs and Senator Fall denies having heavy Mexico interests. The hearings may move to more executive sessions. Witnesses may be protected by secret hearings if fears arise. Mexican officials and secret service agents attend sessions. the Mexican consul has advised nationals not to appear.
Local Boy Scout officials expect word early next week on the new Boy Scout executive from National Scout headquarters in Chicago. Several capable candidates are under consideration and will be recommended to local officials for their choice. The approved candidate will be sent here immediately.
Two more members of the Paul Delbene family died in Fordham hospital after poisoning from olives. A 10 year old girl remained alive awaiting serum from Washington. A serum package en route by air failed to arrive when the plane was disabled at Black Oak Indiana. it was transferred to a mail train and expected to reach early tomorrow.
William A Roach secretary of state of Indiana died at his Indianapolis home from araemic poisoning at age 45. He had been ill a week after attending a National Republican committee meeting in Washington. He served as secretary since 1917 and took office for his term in 1919. He resided in Delphi prior to his appointment and led Carroll county and Ninth district Republican committees. Pliny H Wolford became acting secretary pending a permanent appointment. Roach signed documents certifying Indiana ratification of the federal suffrage amendment.
Martin Bailey of the New York Luggage Shop, a Marion, Ohio native, is charged by federal authorities with defrauding wholesale firms by using the mails to run a credit-based operation. He faced U S Commissioner Maguire in Cleveland and is held on a $10,000 bond.
In Amsterdam the Dutch government receives a note from the supreme council demanding the extradition of former Emperor William. The letter was officially dispatched last night and drafted by French officials using clauses from a similar July American letter. The council also approved a text demanding surrender of war crime offenders as outlined in the peace treaty.
Berlin reports Ferdi nand Fiona a once popular German actor and protege of former Emperor William proposes to substitute himself for the ex Kaiser and travel to London disguised as the monarch. He says the act would honor Germany and satisfy the allies demand for Count Hohenzollern extradition. He was hissed for portraying the Kaiser in a new film.
Paris report says former Empress Augusta Victoria now in Potsdam considers entering a Protestant religious institution in England or America. Health noted as poor but not critical.
Trustees of Cass county townships met in this city for the annual session and organized the year naming D A G Coblentz president H C Linvill secretary treasurer Norman Myers trustee of Noble township was chosen to represent Cass county at the Eleventh congressional district trustees meeting in Wabash on January 29.
The Cass County Horse Thief Detective association committee met in the Elks hall to finalize arrangements for the annual mid winter picnic in this city on Saturday January 31. The event will start at noon with a big dinner served promptly at 12. The Boy Scout choir will sing during dinner and provide afternoon entertainment. A dance will follow in the evening.
