Sugar price fixed by granulated sugar refining firm
New York January 12 Officials announced a fixed price of 143 1 4 cents a pound for granulated sugar refined from the new crop for wholesale and manufacturing trade. The sugar refining company said the price allows a 1 cent profit to wholesalers and a 1 cent profit to retailers, yielding a 10 1 2 cent retail price. Middlemen would gain an additional 1 cent, lifting their margin to 2 1 2 cents, with the consumer paying about 1744 1 2 cents per pound, lower than current retail levels. The firm said it would suspend export business until Asia’s sugar situation improves and noted domestic deliveries rose since last September.

Cass County Better Farming association plans a full reorganization next Saturday at 1 pm in the main courtroom. About 80 percent of county farmers are members and will elect a new staff for 1920. T. Fire destroys North Center Schoolhouse in Washington township
The North Center schoolhouse five miles south of the city on Young America road was totally destroyed by fire at 12 15 this morning. A bucket brigade formed but flames spread too fast. The nearby St Paul Lutheran church was saved by nearby farmers. The one story brick building housed about forty pupils and all contents were lost. Loss estimated around 2000 dollars. Origin believed due to overheated stove.
