Grand Central gas blast kills ten in New York

A massive illuminating gas explosion at Grand Central's auxiliary power house in Manhattan killed ten people and injured about 125. The blast toppled walls and shattered windows, scattering debris across Lexington and nearby streets. New York December 19 reports Samuel Herman a waiter who was wounded by a knife in the heart. The wound measured three and a quarter inches and was neatly stitched by surgeons. He returned to work the same day. This case is said to be the seventh successful operation of its kind known to the era.
