London December 14 The Associated Press Premier Lloyd George closed his Camberwell speech by denouncing the Labour Party name saying it fails to represent all labor. He accused the party of being led by pacifists and Bolsheviks unfit to guide a great empire. Labour leaders countered that party gains reflect broader support, though some extremists exist.
New York December 14 General Enoch Crowder urged making selective service permanent in a address to 1189 New York draft boards. He cited the system registering 23,740,000 Americans and fielding nearly 3,000,000 fighters, with 2,000,000 more ready to entrain after the armistice. Crowder praised conscripts as valorous and effective like veteran troops.
The American Red Cross directs that membership registration be voluntary with no urging to enroll or renew. Thousands of chapter workers are told to collect a single dollar from each member who signs the roll, with no persuasion needed to swell the campaign through the week.
