Merchants will be allowed to keep stores open this evening until 6 o'clock as fuel rule changes take effect. Non essential industries are using makeshifts for power to sustain operations.
Local merchants met at the Chamber of Commerce to discuss modifying fuel regulations to keep stores open later to 6 pm today next Saturday and the day before Christmas. A plan to reduce electricity use 4–6 pm was proposed with City officials agreeing to a trial and committee oversight.
Reports from Philadelphia say a federal order removes bituminous coal restrictions for light heat and power in the Allegheny region including Indiana. An immediate lift is expected in Pittsburgh and Chicago follows with federal and regional confirmations. Local offices await official receipt of the order.
Federal warrant charging profiteering under the Lever Act was issued for Jess Willard former heavyweight champion. He allegedly charged 3.50 a card for wood on the stump from his Topeka area farm, double the lawful price. Willard to appear before a federal commissioner in Kansas City Kansas.
