In Marion Indiana Rev. J Boyd Jones leads a sermon series on Ideals prompting locals to write letters describing an ideal wife. Men from diverse professions outline expectations focusing on home and church duties, modesty, and avoidance of gossip. Next week several girls will weigh in on ideal young men.
A midsummer dance will be held this week at Stettiner Hall hosted by the high school students. A large number of invitations have been sent, with Paul Thomas among those invited to attend.
Members of the JA.M.E. church rehearse for a jubilee concert to be held at the church on Wednesday evening August 18. The program features eighteen voices in the chorus plus solos and quartets, with a white quartet assisting in the concert.
Stockholm reports a mixed response to a general strike with streets busier, transit partially operating, and gas and electric plants functioning. Workers sour on strike methods, many refuse to join, and non socialist newspapers reappear as rumors of collapse spread.
Auburn Indiana August 9 Frank H Nicolai the defaulter and assistant cashier of City National Bank was taken to Fort Wayne for a preliminary hearing before Commissioner T J Tyogan. Bank examiner W D Frazier preferred charges Nicolai led by F B Hoagland secret service agent and Justice Department rep at Washington. Nicolai returned after absconding, Sheriff Ralph Thomas accompanied them, and Nicolai feared shackles though not a desperate man bond to be fixed before moving to Ashley.
About fifteen Logansport members of the Indiana Motorcyclists' club depart Friday at 6 am for Indianapolis to attend the Federation of American Motorcyclists national convention. D C Matthews will provide pennants. a group photograph will be taken in front of the garage on Broadway. The trip includes races at the Indianapolis speedway featuring Eddie Lingenfelder Ray Seymour Billy Hoag and Fearless Balke. The endurance run from Cleveland to Indianapolis continues and will end Wednesday.
Trustees meet at Longceliff at 2 PM to award a $7,000 plus electric light plant contract. Prof. Walter Esterline of Purdue will supervise installation after discussions with hospital superintendent Dr. Terflinger. Old machinery to be reused where possible. new engine and two generators to be installed. Local and regional electrical contractors are bidding.
Archbishop Keane of Dubuque retires from active duty due to ill health effective August 18. The Western Watchman reports the Ste Paul dispatch notes movable rectors of the Archdiocese will meet August to suggest names of a co adjutor.
Mrs Martha Galahn of this city was found dead in a nearby woods with evidence suggesting assault and murder. Dr Grimes reported finger marks on the throat and possible attack, while the coroner and others cited hemorrhage and a struggle as alternate causes. The husband claims murder and suspects a man.
A report says smoke drifted from a Ash street chicken coop prompting a fire alarm. Firefighters entered the hen house to smoke out chicken lice but found a boy in charge who joked they should “drive the lice out.” Chief Livingston sent the team back to the city.
Willard makes his 16th Curtiss aeroplane flight at Mineola New York. He attempts a mile and a half circle close to the ground but cannot complete due to ground elevations and trees. He performs five long curved flights at high speed.
Reports from Spitsbergen indicate repair of the airship shed after last June storm is finished and a gas apparatus installed. Walter Wellman has begun inflating the balloon on July 31 as preparations for a dash to the north pole proceed.
A traveler named Bryan hurried through Logansport yesterday on Panhandle train No 18 at about 1 oclock. He was en route from Chicago to the southern part of the state and did not stop in Logansport.
Spokane report notes 105000 applicants for Coeur d'Alene lands with one chance in 333 and 109000 Spokane applications at one in 400. Drawings began with twenty cans transferred to a lake shore platform while three girls drawn envelopes, names announced by Judge Witten. Additional lands opened in Montana under enlarged homestead act.

A seventeen year old girl Anna Schumacher was attacked and murdered after leaving home to place flowers on her father's grave. Her body was dragged to a cemetery depression and buried with earth and leaves. the spade used to bury her was found nearby. Police think she was attacked by tramps or thieves near the cemetery.
Annapolis Md Aug 9 A court convened to investigate the death of James N Sutton ruled a death by his own action. Testimony centered on letters and alleged steps leading to his demise as officers and Davis pressed for public access to the letters while Sutton's mother testified and described events surrounding the night of his death.
Italian neighborhood on Toledo Street reports a feud over minor home matters. Delcarlo filed a charge of provocation after Delsanto visited the police station. Delsanto was jailed awaiting a hearing this morning. Delcarlo says the neighbor has threatened him, causing fear to return home at night.
A petition with over five hundred signatures led by F. N. Deen asks Thomas E. Knotts, Gary town board president, to permit beer wagons to deliver to private homes with limits of one case per person per week and no deliveries to blind pig businesses.
