Republicans selected a large slate of delegates to the county and joint senatorial conventions. The county gathering will be held at the rink in the city on Saturday June 2 at 12 30 p m. Delegates from multiple precincts and districts were named to frame the county ticket and nominate a joint senator with alternates and officials listed.
A speaker addresses a boy about Decoration Day, explaining Civil War sacrifices, brother fighting brothers, and the nation built on love of country. He emphasizes memory, gratitude, and civic duty as they join a parade to honor those who fought for the Grand Idea.
Dr Rubsam found a man asleep in his office chair and, after suiting up, the stranger awoke and claimed to be Rubsam’s long lost brother. Police jailed the man, George Scott, who received a fifteen day sentence.
Charley Greer a colored man and his partner George Normal were arrested in the Panhandle yards after alighting from a freight train. A letter found on Greer from a Monongahela Pa. friend urged him to flee, promising long jail time if captured. Police sent photos to Monongahela authorities. Greer claims Bristol Tenn. as home and Normal Norfolk Va.
Police board orders keep all venues closed on Sunday as saloons face 43 closures. Extra vigilance keeps saloonmen obeying the order amid a tight town atmosphere.
In the Republican city primary in the Fifth ward tensions flared from the start over meeting times and delegate selection. John M Johnston accused Oscar Conant of opposing him for postmaster as Patterson clashed with Johnston over accusations and procedure. Conant did not deny the charge and pledged to work toward his aims.
A heated argument centered on the candidacy for an appointment. One speaker vowed to tell the truth and avoid lies about Johan ston, hoping honesty would help his chances. The exchange grew hostile, with insults exchanged until friends intervened to prevent a wider clash.
Mrs J EB Myers of 321 Wilkin son street was severely injured in a runaway in Flora while returning from the cemetery where she had laid to rest her daughter Ruth Myers killed Friday by a Panhandle train. A wagon struck the carriage as the mother jumped. her foot caught in a wheel tearing a tendon. She was moved to her home and shows improving condition.
Local ministers push to stop Sunday games arguing Sabbath desecration but authorities disagree. Police say no law is being violated as games proceed with internal collections, and most clergy remain silent or supportive of the pastime.
The Adams township Democrats met in convention with Abe Moss as chairman and H E Ferguson as secretary. Delegates named include Levi Mans for state convention with alternate Charles Reed. Willard Ault for congressional convention. Louis Rimpler with alternate H E Ferguson for joint representative. Sam Hoover for joint senatorial convention with Floyd Sullivan as alternate.
A humane society driven effort aims to place two attractively designed horse drinking fountains in the downtown business area. Currently four fountains exist but are located on the outskirts, prompting this citywide improvement plan.
Memorial Day observances proceeded despite morning rain as clouds broke and sunshine returned. The G A R Spanish American War veterans Company K I N G W R C and Ladies of G A R joined a city parade while rink and cemetery ceremonies honored fallen defenders. Hon George A Gamble gave the address as Logansport residents paused work and displayed half mast flags in solemn tribute.
John W. Barnes and Karl Barnes of Kokomo argued before the board of works over a Panhandle Railroad crossing on North street. They own land formerly used by the Carbon company and claim the railroad seeks to widen a right of way beyond their ten foot concession, potentially twelve to fourteen feet, with a fence boundary now missing. They offered to defer to three disinterested citizens if needed, and the board halted action awaiting satisfactory arrangements with the railroad.
In a ten inning game at Galveston yesterday the Marion Ath letics defeated the Cass county boys 14 to 10. Marion pitchers yielded nine hits while Galveston , a twelve hit day for the Galveston twirler. Both teams committed three errors with Loop and Platt for Galveston and Allegar Thatcher and Snyder for Marion guiding their teams.
