Crowded high school seats 300 in main room and 100 more in labs and library. About 100 new students will enter next fall, pushing total to over 500 as country graduates join the city ranks. Board delays action but summer expansion is deemed necessary.
A class of 12 candidates joined the Loyal Order of Moose last evening in the Red Men's hall. Over 200 attended the banquet at the Bismarck cafe where the Citizens' band played. Degree work was conferred by a team including G. J. Seibart P. B. Newcomb Peru 41 B. Jones F. E. Antrim Munice R. B. Palmer A. E. Patchin Syracuse F. C. Bisler Pittsburg.
Warner Sturgeon at Spencer Park has started a small makeshift zoo amid no municipal facility. A baby monkey, kept on a chain, is the main attraction and writes with a pencil. Other animals include a rooster and goat pair, two roosters, a donkey, squirrels, and a peacock.
C. A. Hughes, reported resident of Royal Centre, is under arrest in Indianapolis on charges of petit larceny for allegedly taking a gold necklace from a hotel.
The St Joseph Hospital Sewing circle presents a play titled What Happened to Parker on June 22 in Logansport. Miss Mary West directs a cast of local youths rehearsing at Stettiner hall with early plans finalized last night.
Members of the local high school baseball team have disbanded and will not play any more games this season. The Indiana Association, the school’s governing body, blocked summer play despite returning football players and upcoming fall talent.
The Nelson theatre hosted the high school commencement with 56 graduates seated on stage. Prof Ira C Howarth of Chicago University spoke on schools relation to world labor and the value of higher education. Don Harrell presented diplomas. Supt A O Douglass introduced the speaker. Rev C A Wade opened with prayer.
Members of the cast of For Old Eli decide to use earnings from the class play to fund a banquet. A meeting this evening will set the time and place, likely next week before summer break.
The young son of Joseph Fettig had his hand badly lacerated when his bicycle chain and sprocket caught his hand. Fettig was cranking the wheel with it upside down at the time.
Beal Brothers proceed with garage construction on Fifth street between the Old Bellows base and Longwell Cummings building. T. Barnes holds the contract and uses adjoining walls, needing only front and rear walls. Large steel girders span from the Odd Fellows' south wall to the Longwell Cummings north wall.
Panhandle and Vandalia shop workers plan a joint picnic on July 12 at Lake Maxinkuckee. After last year's expenses left a treasury surplus, organizers will fund large cash prizes and new athletic events. Expect three special trains and a record turnout.
Harry Watts of this city received a copy of the Tribune from Froid Montana where his brother and father, D.M. Watts, live. The paper is the first issue and the local people welcome it as a sign of civilization.
Arrangements are complete for the Elks' carnival to run June 6 to 11 at the new ball grounds. The event features a queen of the carnival contest with many popular entrants, a newly lit main gate, a dance hall with a six piece orchestra, and the Cosmopolitan Shows arriving next week for the largest carnival company on the road.
Miss Grace Schwalm and several Christian Endeavor members from this city will travel to Monticello on Tuesday and Wednesday for the nineteenth annual Logansport district convention. The Cass White Pulaski Carroll and Fulton counties comprise the district. Schwalm will respond to the welcome address by Rev. Co J. Armentrout of Monticello.
The city council will hold a special meeting tonight to pass an ordinance allowing Valley Traction to erect a new traction station at Third and Market streets and to lay tracks into the Kreuzberger lot.
Royal Centre Indiana plans a Chicago plan auto parade to transport veterans to the cemetery for Decoration Day. The Weyand & House store will host the lineup with the band riding in a carry‑all. Schools closed with a successful program. play netted over 75 dollars.
Two wives file in Cass circuit court seeking divorce. Nellie M. Hendee asks divorce from George L. Hendee and $2,000 alimony with child custody, accusing him of receiving postal cards from other women and abusing her. Lillian E. Reinheimer seeks divorce from John J. Reinheimer and $1,000 alimony, alleging he drove her from their home May 6, 1910 and was abusive.
A party of 100 tourists traveling from Milwaukee to New York will pass through the city Sunday evening. They depart Chicago at 3 o clock, arrive at 6 p m., stay thirty minutes for supper, then continue to New York aboard a White Star steamer. They will use two tourist cars on the special train.
Clarence Betcaer of 2116 Spear Street slipped on cellar stairs at his residence yesterday and sustained a broken rib.
A bright comet sighting last evening flooded telephone lines as 700 callers attempted to share the view. Operators worked rapidly but could not answer all, with many more trying to reach central. Prof Gamble notes a tail about fifty degrees long and the nucleus roughly 32 million miles away. The comet should remain visible for several nights. tonight between 9 and 9:30 is best with a clear sky.
Seven new measles cases are listed with names and addresses including Russell Steiger and Jennifer Lewis. Discharges from quarantine include H. O. Brown and A. Zellers. Mary Hoover has recovered from diphtheria.
President Flanegin of the North State Base Ball league will call another meeting tomorrow night to finalize plans before the league opens. Eddie Fleming, the local team manager, has his lineup prepared for Sunday’s game against New Castle at the new ball park.
Ira M. Phillips and G. W. Bishop of Walton sold their interests in the Walton elevator to L. McFadden of Arcola Ind for 319000. Phillips also sold his New Waverly elevator to A. Haun and plans retirement to his farm. Edgar Phillips will transfer his Walton elevator interest to McFadden on June 1.
