In a statewide roll of counties, Madison County shows a dry win amid several wet outcomes. Results list numerous counties with dry by remonstrance and others voting wet, detailing saloon presence and dates for follow ups across Indiana.
Dry forces win in Madison Crawford and Owen counties with Madison showing a 1258 vote margin. Other counties Floyd 106 saloons near Louisville, Laporte 116 saloons favored wet, and Harrison with four saloons is dry. Results reflect organized campaigns and saloon distributions.
Andrew Elinger was acquitted in police court after Barr failed to identify him as the man who assaulted a farmer who spoke to Jessie Johnson on a street corner about a week earlier. Barr could not positively identify Elinger.
Citizens discuss whether to celebrate on the third fourth or fifth with banks likely closed Monday. Mayor McKee will seek merchants' views and issue a proclamation. Decoration day to be observed Monday with post office stores open until noon and city offices closed.
Robert C. Jones Michigan passenger agent for the Chicago Milwaukee St Paul railroad died this morning at his Detroit home. He was well known here and had planned to visit this city this evening to meet the Elks lodge and discuss a trip to the national convention in Los Angeles next month. telegram announcing his death was received late this afternoon.
Street Commissioner Truax reports ten complaints about urban flooding after a storm. Investigation finds catch basins blocked by boards and debris, with talk of enforcing ordinances against dumping grass leaves and papers into gutters to prevent future floods.
Local residents show heightened interest in Flag Day June 14 as the American Flag’s 133rd anniversary nears. The American Flag Association circulates materials to governors, mayors, and civic groups urging proper observance and patriotic exercises. Veterans of the Civil War and the G A R are expected to lead ceremonies highlighting the flag’s history from 13 stripes and 13 stars to later additions.
Capitalists in the West End show interest in the Kennedy addition mineral spring and plan to build two sanitariums. They compare the water to West Baden Martinsville and Attica and intend to erect a large hospital and advertise nationwide.

Community donations continue to flow for the building fund with numerous individuals and firms contributing varied amounts including high gifts from E S Rice and Anhelt DeHaven.
Charles G Dodge files suit against the city in circuit court seeking 3500 damages and an injunction. He claims bad gutters and grades on Broadway and adjacent streets cause storm water to flood his Twenty Fourth and Broadway residence, lowering its value and rents. The claim cites a $5000 home, $400 yearly rent, and $2500 depreciation.
Dr Hiram D Hattery who has run a drug business on Plum street and Miami avenue for thirty six years has sold to Marion Miller of Michigantown and will retire at sixty four. He is a West Side pioneer and influential citizen known for leadership and politics. Miller bought the store and building and is described as an energetic businessman.
Kokomo league baseball players plan to attend Leo Smiths funeral after he was fatally injured in Sundays game. All Kokomo team games are canceled until after the funeral as a mark of respect.
Panhandle operator D. M. Crisman reports twenty-one of his twenty five chickens drowned yesterday during the storm.
In Logansport the Home for the Friendless and the Orphans’ Home will give inmates an auto ride around the city and countryside. Some fear the “harum scarum” cars while others welcome the trip. a public reception for visitors to tour the homes will be held tomorrow afternoon and evening to acquaint the public with the work.
Last evening several streets flooded after heavy rainfall and clogged sewers. Water covered Twenty second and Market, Sixteenth from Market to Smead, Race from Seventh to Eighth, Toledo near Seventeenth, and Sycamore north of the Vandalia tracks.
The city will host its annual free summer picnic for poor children at Spencer park on July 15. Captain Smith will continue the tradition started by Captain James with rides on a city street car, skating at the rink, and a program of games, ice cream, cake, pie, and fruit. Kettles at business district corners will collect pennies to fund the event, with free admission for all youngsters.
Indignant female workers led by Diana and Arabella threatened to quit and ostracize union members after being barred from a local retail clerks union formed Tuesday night. After a heated indignant meeting the union officers agreed to admit all women, with a qualifying meeting to follow for the named workers.
Harry Bendel of Huntington, Republican district chairman, is slated to be appointed census supervisor for Indiana's seventh district. The role lasts a year with pay around 2500 dollars. The appointee will select local enumerators across the district. Bendel is a known figure in Republican politics.
Several running times are altered to serve workmen on the east end. No. 1 will depart at 2 35 a m instead of 3 05 a m. No. 10 and 18 switch to the Glewood route from Chicago. East end changes include No. 32 at 7 40 a m to 7 20 a m No. 48 to 4 15 p m from 4 30 p m No. 41 arrival to 11 10 a m and No. 32 arrival to 7 46 p m from 7 30 p m.
The Panhandle steam shovel in the gravel pit at Trimmer, run by former Patrolman Jesse Frohm, was completely buried last night when an embankment caved in. No workers were present and no injuries occurred. Section men worked to dig the machine out today.
