W R Thompson aged 38 of Uhl Street and a member of the Vandalia wrecking crew was killed when a jack bar slipped while lifting a derailed car near Crawfordsville. He died instantly. his widow and three children survive. Thompson had joined the Foresters six weeks earlier and was insured for 1500 dollars. The wreck at No 64 damaged eight cars and the caboose. trains were routed around the scene while crews cleared the track.
