Jacob Meoak proprietor of the Stone Jug saloon corner Berkley and Durett streets was fined 30 for selling beer to a minor. Girl startled by porch rat during German society parade
A West Side girl on Sunday afternoon was engrossed in a novel on her veranda when a rat scurried across the porch. She screamed as the creature dashed into her ankle, sending the crowd of suitors and spectators into a frenzy to aid the frightened maiden.

Monster Turtle Delivers Surprise To Bridge City Hotel
John Berry owner of the Bridge City hotel ordered turtle meat from a Chicago firm. A 200 pound turtle arrived and was placed in the display window. Berry refused to keep it after being billed nearly five dollars for expressage and watched it be carted away. A beer barrel was later placed on its back as the turtle walked away.
