A gala day marks the country club opening with reports of excellent grounds and a crowded golf links. Members and guests filled the club house, enjoying improved facilities including a nine hole course and top tenis courts. Light refreshments were served from four to six, with dancing planned and expects about a thousand attendees by midnight.
A letter urges the board of public works to cap the West Side sewer cost at no more than one third borne by the city. It notes past practices varied by conditions created by city decisions, such as front street sewer changes and river dam relocation, and calls for equal treatment of all districts despite treasury limits.
Governor Hanly orders the Logansport police to enforce a stricter Sunday dry rule. Chief executive Steve Boyer and Ser geant Morris push for closures and password checks at saloons. Captain Foley succeeds Morris as board secretary amid a pending department shakeup.
Thomas Harley and Ida M. Fim mert were married last night after receiving a marriage license yesterday. Both have previous marriages and divorces, with Hurley obtaining a 1898 Huntington county divorce and the bride a 1901 divorce on March 8.
William A. Wiedner, former marshal at Walton, is reported to be in the city during a campus or municipal visit.
The Logansport Polo association submitted a contract to the Board of Public Works to lease city ground for another year at the south rink area. Broadway Rink company granted a lease for the main rink ground. The board ordered sidewalk plans on Twentieth street and a stone wall along McKinley park. James Chidester named special policeman at Riverside park.
Citizens question status of a $2,000 appropriation for a public bathing facility. The board of public works is urged to act immediately to finish plans and begin construction within six weeks, aiming for summer use or, if not, to clarify winter bathing plans.
Indiana Grand Lodge session opens with focus on repairing or rebuilding the famed Grand Lodge Building after a recent fire. Grand Master Alfred W. Emery delivers the annual address as trustees report on the fire damage and future plans. Delegates elect officers and witness degree work as seven hundred representatives convene in Indianapolis.
Bruce Kinney of the state oil and gas inspectorate notes gas and oil development near Evansville. He cites Illinois wells across the Indiana line near Sullivan county producing fifteen million feet of gas daily, enough for Evansville, and mentions drilling near Cannelton and promising Princeton field wells. He warns Illinois gas waste harms Indiana supply.
W M. E. Van Buren formerly ran a Third street meat market and filed for bankruptcy in Indianapolis on May 6 with assets of 756.30 and liabilities of 2 059.35. Banks and major meat packing firms appear among creditors. George W. Walters is named trustee. Separately, William E. Haney wins a 309.26 judgment against Frank H. Spohn and John Hedde in circuit court with sheriff levies to follow if unpaid.
John E. Browning testified he invested $500 in Ubero Plantation and found little of the pictured landscape. W. D. Owen and others described payments and commissions, while Ferdinand Borges faced objections about turnover and charges as the trial unfolded in Boston.
The Logansport district ministers and stewards will gather at Broadway M E church tomorrow for the annual session. They will discuss district work and handle related business with Logansport now leading the district. Presiding Elder J H N Herrick will preside.
Twenty pullets and six turkeys vanished from Montreville Simons last night amid a tale of nocturnal theft. In Logansport, Reichardt pursues a bogus German baron, Bauman, who flashed large bills and dodged loans. George Gross vanished after pay, while Rufus Lanarum, a deaf man, was returned to Howard county infirmary.
Captain and Mrs J B Winters arrived back in Logansport last night after eighteen months on the Pacific coast. They stayed in Long Beach and other cities in California and report good health and a pleasant trip avoiding the San Francisco earthquake. The Hauk family and Miss Lizzie Dunkle in Long Beach are also said to be enjoying life and well.
Alelging he owed fifty cents for board to his mother, musician Donald M. Carson was punched by Ben Dickerson in a city street. Carson filed a warrant for Dickerson with a Thursday trial date. Carson admits the debt but says payment was refused.
Jefferson Rierson of Andrews Ind collapsed at the Wabash station while buying a ticket to Lafayette for the Indiana G A R encampment. He suffered convulsions, received opiates, and was taken by ambulance to St Joseph's Hospital where he was reported in fairly good condition. A delegation of local veterans and auxiliary members departed for Lafayette to attend the encampment.
Dr. John W. Younge faces a restraining order in Vigo County, preventing him from drawing or transferring funds while Ivy Younge pursues divorce. The order, issued by the Vigo County Circuit Court, is to be served on the Hamilton National Bank of Fort Wayne and the First National Bank to freeze his assets pending the suit outcome.
Terrence McGovern who last Saturday underwent an operation at St Joseph's hospital to correct a tubercular condition of the left knee is progressing well and in good spirits. The surgery removed the diseased bone and tubercular tissue but did not amputate the limb and will not be unless treatment fails.
Will Rosier lost the tip of a finger on his right hand last night when a door at Panhandle Fourth Street station shut as he attempted to alight from a Chicago bound train. The injury is described as extremely painful and peculiar.
Police seek George Marlowe 35 described as light complected and slightly demented. He is not violent and has strayed from Plymouth.
