Harry E. Miller of Peru sues Standard Cabinet Co in the Cass circuit court claiming injury from a dull circular saw. He alleges two fingers were severed after a foreman promised to sharpen the blade and the accident occurred while Miller was cutting boards.
Five actions filed by Frank M. Millikan have been settled after long pending status in the circuit court. Judgments were entered against Dan Tarver for 34.15, Galloway et al for 268.65, Kreis et al for 149.51, Mary A. Shideler et al for 141.80, and Marion Douglas et al. In Isabelle J. Smith versus Joseph H. Smith, the defendant did not appear and an alias summons was issued to the Marshall county sheriff.
Boise Idaho May 17 Judge Wood opened Haywood trial noting morning papers interview with Orchard intended to influence witnesses and jurors He ordered the county prosecutor to investigate the interview and take warranted action Orchard is said to testify he placed the bomb that killed the governor.
In Lodz Russia Poland on May 17 a squad of Cossacks opened fire on forty five officials and mill workers after a band of terrorists attacked a mail wagon in the neighborhood killing fifteen.
A man identifying as John Fulton was arrested by Railroad Officer Strahle at Panhandle station after being seen boarding a mail car on eastbound Train No 20. He was captured, jailed, and had been put out of Panhandle yards the previous night by the same officer.
Manager Walter Uhl reports at Indianapolis gathering that independent telephone firms rejected a Bell company merger. The Bell exchange will not be abandoned according to the statement.
A baseball game scheduled at the park with the Cherokee Indians was played in the afternoon and won by the Indians 5 to 4. Evening plans were cancelled due to low attendance and the team departed the city in disgust. Harry Jones formerly of the Dowling served as an electric.
William Holtzmer former Logansport man and Big Four freight conductor was instantly killed when a construction train carload of stone crushed him at Milroy. He resided in Towanda with a wife and infant, survived by a mother three brothers and a sister. His funeral plans are not yet settled.
Athens Georgia Maj Dorsey sentences traveling revivalist J H Arnold to six months on the rockpile after he lashes his twelve year old son for playing baseball on Sunday. Physicians testify the lashings were severe with possible lasting injury as Arnold defends the act as a deadly sin.
The eight year old daughter of a wholesale fruit dealer died yesterday afternoon at St. Joseph's school after spasms could not be relieved by physicians. The funeral is set for Monday at nine from St. Joseph's church with interment at Mt. St. Vincent.
Postmaster Johnston issued an order effective June 1 requiring flat residents to retrieve mail from the first landing or use general delivery if boxes are not provided. Carriers will not climb above the first landing. The rule arises as Indiana postmasters gather for a new association convention in Indianapolis with leaders W J Vickery W R Spillman and J M Waltz. One hundred seventy three postmasters attended.
The Ottumwa high school graduating class staged a one night strike on the opera house stage to force the superintendent and faculty to confer a diploma on Horace J. Smith Jr. The class of twenty three demanded his graduation and after an hour the diploma was awarded.
A new time card will become effective on the Wabash railroad June 9. Traffic officials met in St. Louis to discuss and adopt the new card. Publication date pending. Two new trains are expected to be added.
Bell telephone lineman James McAvoy fell from a pole on Broad Way when it broke near the ground. He is confined at the Bridge City hotel and shows marked improvement. doctors report a broken left leg.
Ruth Biggs daughter of Fries Biggs of South Bend ran away from home after family quarrel. She had placed third in a South Bend Tribune beauty contest for northern Indiana. She was spotted in Elkhart behind a ribbon counter and returned to South Bend after officers were alerted.
Members of the old German Baptist group travel to Quincy Pennsylvania for their annual convention. Thirty five from Flora moved via the Vandalia to the Panhandle line yesterday. Forty from Moran were in town this morning, and thirty five from North Manchester will arrive tonight on the way to the same gathering.
A four year old and an eighteen month old baby of Mr. Wolf at Vandalia shops were injured yesterday morning when dynamite taps exploded during play. Neither child suffered serious harm.
Township records show Saturday is the deadline for dog tax payments in Logansport. Delinquent owners face possible prosecution with fines around twelve dollars, though few cases have reached court in years. Owners lament the two to five dollar animal tax layered on real and personal taxes.
Roy Hire was struck in the left eyelid by flying steel at the West Side foundry this morning. The cut required a bad gash dressing by Dr Ballard.

Police receive urgent plea from Guthrie Wagner's mother seeking lookout for 12 year old who left home early today saying he would never return.
Calvin Wininger, fifteen, of near Galveston Indiana, withdrew 125 from a Galveston bank and disappeared toward Kokomo and St Louis. His father traced the purchase of clothing and a leather case, then learned the boy had returned home early that morning, saying city life disappointed him and he would stay on the farm.
A gravel car from the new construction line jumped the track this morning at the Fourth and Market streets corner while heading to the South Side line. The derailment disrupted interurban and city car traffic over Market Street.
Superintendent Douglass instructed all city teachers with grades above fourth to prepare special manuscripts in geography reading and history. The aim is to compare the quality and progress across different instructors.

Granville Cowing and wife of Muncie file in circuit court to recover a $20,000 farm gifted to their daughter Florence Cowing Marsh on her marriage to Linnie Marsh. They say consideration was lifelong care for the elderly couple and that promised privileges were not granted. Florence, once active in the Indiana Writers’ association, is a noted poet.
Mrs. Kate Dolan, 84, former laundress to Philander L. Johnson, sues for 3500 on two notes saying the millionaire faced family neglect. She testifies he was forced to bathe in the basement bathroom while the coachman used the upstairs bath, and the Johnson children mocked his age and isolation. Johnson is reported to be dying at his home.
Charles Becker William Hanley and Ed Dolan returned from the state K of C convention at Evansville where they reported a fine meeting and royal entertainment by the Evansville lodge. The main feature was plans to mount a heavy canvass for new members with the next meeting to be held at Washington Indiana.
