Loganport ministers prepare sermons for a Fathers Day noting the hubbub over fathers being honored. They warn against inflated egos and say no definitive date is set, urging timely discussion of paternal faults and virtues.
President Roosevelt visits Chicago for a baby show event. He urges homemakers to stay at home evenings and help mind the baby while advising against becoming grouchy around the house and to spend wisely.
Thomas Austin, aided by Rabb and Mahoney, filed in Cass circuit court to enjoin Marvin M. Minnick the county treasurer from collecting alleged unpaid sequestered taxes for years 1881 to 1910 inclusive placed on the tax duplicate by John W. Harvey. Austin says he paid these taxes and the claims cloud his real estate.
Sol Birkenroth is celebrated as the proud father of a healthy baby boy in Logansport. Julius Wagner likens the infant to Sol, while friends joke the compliment might cost the new dad cigars.
William Zeek, released from jail yesterday, celebrated by drinking and was rearrested. This morning he was ordered to leave town.
Board of public works to open bids for North Street paving with trust controlled Trinidad Pitch Lake and Bermuda asphalt. Independent contractors barred. bids from Andrews Asphalt Saxton and Henreddy considered. Previous bids showed Andrews higher than Saxton by about 4000 dollars. Henreddy near Saxton by 100.
The Cass circuit court records a case brought by Diane Hutto against Howard Stewart charging bastardy. The matter was bound over from Judge V C Hanawalt's court and filed today.
Detroit announces a hatpin regulation taking effect September 1. Women wearing pins longer than ten inches may be jailed, fined, or both under the new law.
More than 1,300 members attend the annual meeting of the Indiana Rebekah Assembly in Indianapolis. Officers elected include Lulu Kean and Kate Nichols. resolutions on H. J. McSheehy’s death read, grand lodge sessions loom, and a large turnout buys 1,000 tickets for the Odd Fellow home trip.
City and county face crowded jails with drunks serving long sentences. Proposal cites Marion and Loganport examples of chain gangs for outdoor labor. Convert Sixth and Race property into playgrounds, using prisoners to do the work and ease tax burdens.
Business men show increasing interest in Star Automobile Company stock headed by promoter G. G. Shaw of Indianapolis. Subscriptions rise as stock, initially offered at three dollars per share from par ten, may move higher as more shares are sold.
Thomas A. Peden has received the cornerstone for the new Baptist church. The foundation will be finished by the latter part of next week, then the walls will be started. The cornerstone laying is set for next month and a program is being planned.

George Shirey sues in Cass circuit court to recover 225 dollars on a note and to nullify a real estate conveyance involving Jesse Shaddinger William Shaddinger Emma Fry James Fry Edna Powell and Homer Powell.
Wilsie M Quigley won a divorce from Thomas M Quiz ley today on grounds of infidelity and was awarded custody of their child.
Joseph Riehle files for divorce from Rose Riehle in Cass circuit court alleging cruel and inhuman treatment and seeks custody of their child.
Bids were opened from Independent Coal Sellyville Indiana Coal Vandalia Parke County and others for mine run coal at varied per ton prices plus screenings nut and slack. Prices quoted FOB at the mine and two firms appear most competitive as bids are under advisement for the upcoming contract award.
Washington May 16. On its own initiative the supreme court of the District of Columbia initiated contempt of court proceedings against Gompers Mitchell and Morrison. The jail sentence was revoked by the supreme court of the United States Monday and the case was remanded to the district supreme court.
The board of works met this morning and approved building permits for Mary Miller to add to her home at 421 North Street, Mary Reed to remodel her house at 623 Ottawa Street for about $700, Isaac Shideler to build a porch on Broadway, John Hunter to erect a two story frame dwelling on Eighth Street costing about $3 600, A G Jenkines to build a two story frame dwelling on Eleventh Street about $2 000, and John Keip to remodel 514 Broadway for about $700. The water main extension on Erie Avenue from Fifteenth to Sixteenth Street was referred to Superintendent Harry Klinck. The river road grading petition from A L Jones was laid over.

Cranston R L May 16 Saturday half holidays for inmates of the state prison is the newest prison reform. Warden McCusker gave each of his 500 prisoners a clay pipe and tobacco and, with a baseball game and other amusements, the penitentiary assumed a summer resort aspect.
The fire department responded to an alarm at the Crystal theatre on Market street last evening. Smoke poured from the cellar but the blaze was minimal and no damage occurred.
Charles E Schleiger of this city was reelected treasurer of the Indiana State Billposters and Distributors association at its twenty first annual meeting in Indianapolis yesterday.
