Bell Telephone Co proposes to abandon local exchanges and route toll lines through Independent firms in Indiana. Walter J. Uhl and other managers in Indianapolis hold an executive session to decide whether to accept the deal, which would shift local toll business to Home Telephone Co on a percentage basis.
Late yesterday the last of the assessors reported. Ed ward Kelly R L Woodling and Charles W Traut submitted figures listing former values and revised amounts for numerous individuals including John H Banta Frederick Petrich Ralph G Smith Jas Sullivan Maud Sullivan Fred Davis John A Little Blanche M Little Sarah N Langton Montraville Britton Ferdinand Schellman Samuel W Trick Emma Pelion Homer L Tippett Mary A Tippett Arthur J Wolf Margaret E Hill Amanda I Updegraff Elizabeth Atlee and others with major reductions from original amounts to new totals.
Reporters confronted two high school boys from St Louis who admitted plans to ride freight trains to reach the Jamestown exposition. They left yesterday on a Vandalia train and expected to work at the exposition after arriving, saying they would accept consequences if caught.

A. H. Brown of 424 Noble Street died last night at 10:50 in Chicago yards while preparing to depart on train No. 78. He was struck while making an air brake coupling as cars rolled forward, severing his head and right arm. His body was brought to the Forty Ninth Street area, to an undertaker, and later returned to his home for burial with the funeral planned for tomorrow.
Judge Wassen sustains the city attorney's demurrer to Dr. Jordan's injunction petition against the board of works. The injunction is rejected and the city's assessment remains valid, ending the challenge to the West Side sewer charges.
Miss Georgie Warner departed this noon for Kokomo to spend a few days as guest of relatives.
Mrs. Lucia Loiocano filed with Squire Reid that Dominick Loioecano she married days ago had assaulted her earlier and she feared he would desert her after marriage. A warrant for non-support was issued and an attachment levied on his Panhandle railroad earnings. $200 paid as bail to keep him from leaving and to secure his return was not recovered.
E. S. Kryder, arrested after passing an alleged worthless check and taken to Terre Haute, reportedly bought a $365 diamond in Bloomington on installments and lost it after a week, potentially facing another charge.

Former deputy sheriff Buck Stanley returns from Kendallville to urge a public remonstrance against granting a pardon to Bill Green who killed Luella Mabbitt twenty years ago. Stanley accuses Green of unrepentant murder and vows to testify before the board of pardons while a petition grows in Poplar Grove and Young America neighborhoods.
James Evilsizer was sentenced to forty days in county jail after brutalizing his estranged wife. He followed her from a lodge, struck her at the North and Sixth streets corner, and she sought refuge at Mrs. Sam H. Dalrymple's home. Despite injuries, she testified in court this morning.

Burglars entered a Galveston bank yesterday morning and forced the safe open without alarms. They escaped with several notes and about $60 in gold.
Assessors completed filings with the county auditor on the last allowable day. Early returns show an unprecedented rise in real and personal property values across townships, with ten assessors reporting and many polls increasing. Notable figures include Adams real estate $389 127 and personal property $133 243, Clinton real estate $469 170, and Washington real estate $758 680 with polls rising to 257.
