A delivery wagon horse frightened by a street car on Michigan Avenue leaped twelve feet down an embankment into Eel River. The driver Walter Ludders steadied and both escaped injury as the wagon slid away.
A Bradley baseball team renames itself the Hustlers to reflect a broader spirit and promises to play all comers regardless of creed color or former service. The lineup includes Joseph Kienly Charles Early Thomas Falvey Rodger Bligh Martin Grady William Whitehead John Whitehead Jr William Welsh John Daily Jr. Fans bought an umbrella prize for a Sunday drawing as tickets circulated. An unrelated river wagon accident ended with minor damage and a calm return to travel for Mr Ludders and a horse and driver.
A transformer or cut-off box on a telegraph pole at Broadway and Fifth Street burned out this afternoon during a switch from the Broadway street car line to Erie avenue. Firefighters used a steady water stream for several minutes to quell the blaze. The cause is not yet explained by the electrical department editor but insulation failure or high pressure from the power house is suspected.
Panhandle Night Operator F L Campbell of Onward suffered a deep head wound when a rickety chair collapsed he fell backward striking his head on a table edge. A learner in the office shouted for the day operator Max Metz who assisted and Campbell was taken home under Dr Snyder care where he is recovering.
Frank Coleman previously in Vandalia’s commercial department has purchased Elmer Davis’s Bridge City construction plant on Biddle's Island and today assumed leadership of the new venture. He hopes the enterprise will become a leading local manufacturer.
Masons and contractor Frank Medland settled a one day strike at the O'Donnell livery stable contract after agreeing non union Carpenters could work. Two Wolf masons remained barred while unions sought fairness. Work resumed on the O'Donnell project and other Medland contracts.
Mrs Lulie Clay Brock of Flemingsburg Kentucky visits Logansport soliciting funds to win a new trial for Caleb Powers jailed for Governor Goebel murder. She claims Powers innocence, says she taught him, and has spent her own money on the cause. She calls on businessmen and citizens at the Barnett Hotel.
The city board of health ordered abandonment of the pest house on Hamilton Heights where laborers dismantled tents used as a detention hospital during the epidemic. Several cases remain under strict quarantine, but officials expect all to recover in a few days.
Jennie Trent, an employee at a Loganport hostelery, files in circuit court for divorce from William J. Trent. Her complaint cites cruelty and desertion, with self support since the separation. attorney is John G. Meek.
Contractor Medland will begin razing the old frame structure on Market Street owned by Dr. J. W. Ballard, next to the S. W. Allery building, on Monday as preparatory work for a handsome four story brick building. Miss Alice Courtney will spend Sunday in Indianapolis.
Officers Coulter and Duff entered a Huntington saloon after eleven to warn the proprietor of a closing law violation. The scene allegedly included the mayor, clerk, treasurer, engineer, council members, and contractors. Officials claim the visit arose from a social custom, while the policemen are accused of acting out of spite.
A cadaverous bull dog prowls the high school building each night threatening intruders. Janitor McElheny, acting on faculty orders, fights to stop the staff sealing and flag hanging but struggles, devising a plan that costs him no sleep.
An important Commercial club meeting will be held at nine o’clock tonight in the Bridge City Candy Company office opposite the courthouse to consider a proposal for locating a large factory. The session will be attended by club members and discuss factory site options.

Police report the escape of Edward Hutton, an insane patient from Miami County, last night during bedtime. Officials believe he may have returned home and will be recovered there.
The county board of education meets at the county superintendent’s office to discuss joint commencement of county schools at Spencer park on June 15. Focus lies on selecting speakers, picnic arrangements, and committee duties for the event chosen two weeks ago.
The Crescents and the Imperials, Lincoln school girls teams, will play a public exhibition at Spencer Park on Friday May 22. A practice game at Riverside park drew local spectators and praised the players.
An automobile driven by Mr. Stuckey frightened a horse owned by Kroeger and Strain on Front Street this morning. The buggy overturned and one shaft broke after the horse reared and kicked. John Riley and Shearer jumped clear as the auto passed, then the horse was finally subdued.
Union Traction Interurban coach 134 bound for Marion from Indianapolis wrecked after two crashes near Marion Indiana. Fifteen passengers were injured including Mrs A Cole of Logansport with a broken arm and dislocated shoulder, and conductor John Masters serious. Motorman Burt Bragg and several others sustained injuries from crushed limbs and broken glass. The accident may have been caused by unequal girder tension on the car as it sped through a curve.
Earl Justice son of D C Justice local attorney sailed yesterday from Vera Cruz to New York en route home for a visit. He has not been back in the city for over eighteen months and is expected to arrive about June 1.
May 16 in Bedford Indiana a Monon fast mail derailed at Salem due to a broken flange. The train ran behind schedule and overturned injuring several passengers with Stephen Smith of this city fatally or critically hurt. the Chicago sleeper carried many aboard with few serious injuries.
A derailment of six empty box cars from freight train No. 72 near Boone delayed passenger train No. 40 from Chicago by over three hours. It took the rock crew four hours to clear the right of way.
Joseph Schuler married Elizabeth Banwin in Marion after deeded property was placed in trust with his attorney for the bride to be. The deed then transferred jointly to Mr and Mrs Schuler giving the wife a one half title. The arrangement accompanied their engagement and was recorded as a contractual sale of future interests.
