Indiana division T P A has taken charge of the city. Not fewer than one thousand knights of the grip will be here by the close of the day. The city is a mass of bunting and flags as delegates arrive, with Indianapolis sending a large crowd escorted by its military band.
May 11 12 Logansport bustles as Indiana division Travelers Protective Association delegates pour in from Fort Wayne Indianapolis Richmond Frankfort Lafayette Terre Haute Vincennes and more. Post F hosts lavish hospitality while crowds fill hotels Stettiner hall serves as HQ and a grand ball is planned at Masonic Temple to cap a record attendance.
General notes on the T P A report Indiana and Missouri membership gains. Candidate for Indiana secretary treasurer Frank J Bott leads, W D Chambers seeks re election, national convention in Buffalo. The T P A highlights improvements in rail and hotel arrangements, mileage books, and social features.
The report recalls a Logansport Indiana division T. P. A. meeting fourteen years ago with two days of heavy rain. Rufus Magee notes the long memory for weather and predicts that the upcoming visit by transport will see well behaved weather.
Reported plans for a secret badger fight as part of a T P A convention with 800 members expected to attend. Police asked not to interfere though venue remains undisclosed and a newborn at Crow Flats is noted in the same item.
For over a week police and Sheriff’s deputies hunted a dog, firing repeatedly with no success. Reports claim officers Liming Miller Dickerson Graham Enyart Livingston and others tried to kill the animal on West Side and College Hill while the dog reportedly outwitted them and remains alive.
A T P A delegate weighing about 259 pounds with a friendly smile and badge saved a horse drawn wagon from being hit by an interurban car at Market and Fourth streets. A woman and a girl were panicked nearby as the wagon backed toward the tracks. The man grabbed the horse by the bridle and pulled the outfit off the track, likely averting a serious smash.
Deputy Sheriff Livingston seized a T P A flag and gave it to Ownie Carroll in the county jail. Carroll immediately raised the flag from a jail window and said he would welcome any T P A men to visit and make their stay pleasant so they would not want to leave.
The Elks band accompanied the reception committees today and assisted in welcoming the visiting T. P. A. to the city.
Matt Carter colored enters Harris barber shop on Third street early afternoon angry over past trouble. He is drunk and clashes with a barber who drops his razor and tosses Carter out a plate glass window injuring bystanders. Carter arrested by Captain Foley. injuries require stitches. State case against William and Charles Sherman refiled to juvenile court as both are under sixteen. A probationary officer to investigate.
The Indiana Supreme Court ruled that Cain Baker who failed to pay poll, property, or dog taxes for ten years could not stop the county treasurer from deducting accrued taxes from funds payable to him. Baker sought damanсus after a $50 ditch warrant was offset to $10.88. the court held taxes are a lien on all Baker possesses and the treasurer acted properly.
Henry Tucker William P Felver and H Clay Linvill returned from Warsaw where they attended the Knights Templar conclave. The inspector L Y Newby reported Logansport Commandery showed very fine results with an overall average of 83.34 percent and Henry Tucker recorder earned 100 percent on records.
The case of Alice D. Mooney against her husband John D. Mooney was dismissed in circuit court after the divorce action was filed previously. The couple have reconciled and are living together again.
A. J. Hyatt of 1827 Spear Street has resigned as Panhandle fireman and will relocate with his family to Marion to enter the grain and feed business. Friends regret their departure from the city.
