Cass County farmers hurry corn into the ground as good weather prevails and oats, wheat, and fruit trees show promising blooms. Wheat acreage up due to high prices and Purdue guidance, but corn area lower than last year. May 20 target for major planting. George W. Seybold completed his planting.
The Bloomer Girls, a plucky female team, meet Logansport at Spencer Park on Sunday May 21. The novelty attracts crowds as the Bloomer Girls wear bloomers and perform with gusto. Kokomo Red Sox also visit Spencer Park the following Sunday for the Leaguers first game of the season.
Irene Sullivan formerly of this city died by morphine overdose at her Terre Haute lodging house after learning of a grandfather's legacy. Her sister Mrs. Lillie Brown received the telegram. Undertaker R G McCloskey left for Terre Haute to handle the remains. funeral is planned for tomorrow at Mt Hope cemetery.
Jennie Crockett alleges in Cass circuit court that Perry F. Crockett abused her and the baby and left in 1909 after a quarrel over meals and housework. She seeks divorce and custody of their child. judge Larry reserved decision and ordered both spouses brought to court together.
The Rev. John C. White of Grace M. E. church Logansport declares prayer-chain letters harmful and superstitious. He burned a stack of letters in Sunday service, urging believers to destroy such chains as a blemish on Christian living. He notes many locals receive these letters weekly and fear their influence on susceptible minds.
