Big John Hildebrandt Honored by Fish Named After Him
John Hildebrandt of the city is honored after a fish discovered in 1906 was named Hildebrandt's form the official records as etheostoma hildebrandti. The species found in Fletcher's lake during government soundings by Hildebrandt and H Walton Clark. The fish is a carp bass hybrid with a slim body and carp like tail. The discovery coincided with a May 1910 Biological Society of Washington report detailing its description and location.
