City enumerators report 4 848 school age children in Logansport up 26 from last year with 2 428 male whites 12 male colored 2 389 female whites and 19 female colored. Only 31 colored students statewide highlight far fewer than comparable cities.
An unidentified man about 35 died after being struck by eastbound Vandalia train No 26 at 5 15 pm near Terre Haute. The engineer warned repeatedly but could not stop. The body, with crushed head, was taken to Terre Haute. Coroner Leagtt found no identifying marks beyond a knife and a possibly identifying handkerchief.
The Northern Indiana Fraternal Congress of the Tribe of Ben Hur closed in Kokomo after two days. Garrett was chosen as 1908 meeting site and officers were elected including C Eiler as state chief. A proposed by law change to limit eligibility failed two to one.
The Pennsylvania Railroad must pay $10,000 to George W Lightheiser and $12,000 to Thomas Collins after the supreme court denied a rehearing. The Cass circuit court rendered the sums on venue changes, and the high court affirmed both decisions today. McConnell Jenkines and Jenkines appeared for the plaintiffs.
Hong Kong reports a powder magazine explosion in Canton. Twenty one bodies recovered and hundreds injured. One account estimates three hundred killed.

One hundred representatives from Cleveland and Eastern capitalists plus rail officials will visit Loganport between May 13 and 17 to inspect manufacturing facilities. The trip, organized by the Logansport Industrial Association, aims at wholesale trade expansion and finding investment locations, with plans to show the city’s advantages and hospitality. The excursion, led by Warren H. Ferguson, will include visits to 34 Indiana cities starting Richmond and ending Fort Wayne.

The Wabash Railroad filed a two million sixty thousand dollar mortgage with the Bowling Green Trust Company to back a fifty-year four per cent bond issue for refunding and extension. Funds will double track the line and cover other improvements as well as old claims against the railroad. the filing spans thirty-eight Indiana counties, with Wabash official T. Dun gan and deputy W. O. Fiedler handling the extensive document.

Detect ive Crumley of the Panhandle force captured Richard Disbett known as Nipper Dick on the show grounds. He is wanted in Scranton Pa for diamond stick pins and rings robberies. Disbett was placed on a Panhandle train with Detective Mackey and sent to Scranton after admitting the crime.
Early today a Panhandle special train of six emigrant coaches moved from New York toward the west, while the Wabash hauled a seven coach emigrant train from New York to corads, as large numbers pass through the city en route west and southwest.
About one hundred appeals were filed by property owners arguing damage rather than benefit from the West Side sewer project. City Attorney Funk considers appealing to the Supreme Court if appraisers are appointed, possibly keeping the matter unsettled for a year or more. Contractor Dennis Uhl says appeals won’t worry him as any lost value is city cost.

Grocery deliverymen plan to form a union to ban deliveries after six p m. They seek a universal rule requiring all stores to stop deliveries by that hour. Some stores already enforce the cutoff, while union members push for nationwide adoption.
