Wabash area fish wardens launched a dynamic crackdown after alleged dynamiting near Kenneth and downstream reports. Warden J J Hildebrandt announced a $25 reward for information leading to arrests and convictions, with deputies on alert and court dockets expected to name suspected offenders.
The C. R. & M. began work today on new Peru shop buildings a 175 by 90 foot passenger car repair shop south of the turntable. Brick construction, six weeks to machinery, rushed schedule, with a round house and machine shops to follow.
A Scotch terrier employed as a ratter at Jacob Rothermel's grocery on Broadway was struck by a street car on Broadway hill. The dog was killed, and the city undertaker was called to remove the remains.
The YMCA lecture course ended its season with Durno the magician performing crowd pleasing feats of trickery. The theater was crowded and another course may be planned for next winter. Financial details pending but likely a financial success.
On Tuesday night a barn on William Tritt’s Onwardy farm burned with stock inside. Edgar Phillips alerted neighbors after spotting the blaze. He rode to the scene, woke Tritt, and saved the horses and cattle though the fire could not be stopped. The cause remains a mystery.
Last year a Spencer avenue group considered a cooperative boarding house and tested the idea in Marion with a rented house. They operated with weekly committees to supply meals and a shared treasury for food. With warm weather returning, plans aim for a more successful season, including several cooks and at least three waiters.
The Broadway M. E. church hosts the second banquet and social evening in its lecture room this evening. An informal program of toasts and musical numbers accompanies the banquet, promising a more engaging event than the first gathering. All gentlemen members and interested attendees are invited.
Wabash branch officials warn the Logansport and Wabash Valley Gas Co may not meet winter fuel demand. In two weeks gas stock fell rapidly, with insufficient supply for domestic use despite mild weather. Charles Russell of Dun kirk Logansport suburb was arrested for assault and attempted robbery after Rosie Brown accused him. Justice Reid issued a warrant for Brown when she failed to appear for trial, but she could not be found and Russell was freed.
Royal Center records indicate only two tickets may run in the May election the Democratic and Citizens tickets. Reported candidates include Elmer Potner Joe T Kistler John Doyle and J H Sullivan for the Democrats with C G Kistler as clerk and an unnamed marshal. Citizens list J B Beckley Ed Holmes E A Dunn W G Sweet and Will Goodrich with marshal to be chosen. The town board will name election officers on April 1 and conventions will follow to ensure readiness.
The Eighth Regimental meeting of the U R E of P held in Logansport elected officers for the coming year. John W. Warner of Lafayette became Colonel with Val Zimmerman of Rochester as Lieutenant Colonel and E Peacock of Rensselaer as Major. Col C L Woll presided and a social session followed. prominent Knights from Lafayette Kokomo Frankfort Rochester Veedersburg Crawfordsville and Rensselaer attended.
Smallpox cases drop to a single infection inside city limits with six additional patients in the detention hospital. Public health officials report rapid progress toward containment.
H. T. Conrad, former Panhandle fireman now with the Southern Pacific, arrived home at 1529 Douglass Street after an accident in Texas. He was struck while coupling a car, fell from the track, and his right foot was caught by the wheels, nearly costing him his life.
The Logansport school board awarded the Carnegie library project to John E F Barnes & Sons for 28760 dollars. Bids were not uniform for the same class of construction as contractors failed to bid the same specification.
After severe foot trauma the patient was hospitalized and feared to need amputation. With careful treatment the prognosis improved and doctors expect the foot to be saved. He traveled back to Logansport and is now at his mother's home on Douglass street. Dr. Hetherington examined the wound and supports a favorable outcome.
About thirty seven women have passed civil service exams and been appointed as rural free delivery carriers despite opposition from Postmaster General Payne who argued the job’s hardships and weather exposure were unsuitable for women. Office reports show women carriers perform efficiently and exceed many male counterparts.
Alfred Grindle of Fort Wayne reported bids for the new library project. Logansport contractors offered the lowest bid and were accepted. Cramer & Snyder of Muncie quoted 29985 and other bids ranged up to 395 - the project will use Bedford stone and resemble the high school in design. Razing and site prep to begin immediately as heating and lighting are extra from the $35,000 donation.
Peru attorney E T Reasoner reported that ditch viewers favored the cottagers in the dispute over Bass Lake. Petitioners must build a ditch ten rods from the lake and bear the cost, instead of building twelve rods and having nearby lot owners bear drainage expenses.
Coroner Hetherington concluded the inquest into Leonora Mattlock known as Fay Cooper finding death by her own action from carbolic acid. Funeral held at 4 pm from Wolf Tucker undertakers with Rev. A M Hootman leading services. Burial at Mt Hope cemetery.
John W. Barnes of Kokomo, a polo enthusiast, visited Logansport yesterday to discuss forming a polo league for next season. He envisions competition among Wabash, Kokomo, Logansport, Marion and Lafayette to promote strong sport.
The Gas Belt Labor day celebration planned for September 7 in Peru moves forward as the Central Labor Union reports a successful meeting. The general arrangements committee secured city council concessions for street use and privileges, and delegates from the Gas Belt and Wabash valley will reconvene April 12 to finalize plans for what may be the region’s largest demonstration in northern Indiana.
A home on Sherrin was entered Wednesday night while a child slept, and a child's bank containing three dollars on the writing desk disappeared. The bank was found crushed in the back yard with all money missing. silverware remained untouched. No clues to the thief were discovered.

Four professional card players and four businessmen faced fines. six pleaded guilty this morning, others likely to follow. A lost fourteen dollar stake helped trigger the informant disclosure.
Olga Crazun-Long and Homer J Cragan wed Wednesday at the home of Mr and Mrs Simon Long in Washington township with Rev Ritter officiating. A white Swiss dress bride and black suit groom marked the ceremony followed by a generous reception and gifts. The groom, a Panhandle fireman, has a home prepared in Logansport.
Dr. Barnfield yesterday operated on Mr. Winegardner of Car roll county. The patient had a long standing scalp tumor and is recovering well with a healthy prognosis for rapid recovery.
Circuit Court Judge Palmer of Monticello denied a new trial in the case of George W Lightheiser against the Panhandle Railroad. He rendered judgment for 6500 dollars based on the jury finding. Attorneys then secured an appeal to the supreme court for further review. Lightheiser claimed 18000 dollars for injuries alleged to be permanent while repairing an engine at the depot.
D. C. Arthur acting through Rees der & Sullivan has filed suit against Clarence Jones and B. D. Bradfield to collect a promissory note of 125 dollars. The note was made in favor of Mr. Jones and endorsed by Dr. Bradfield.
Mary C. Pefferman is appointed executrix of the will of Susan C. Pefferman with a $1000 bond. Charles G. Dodge is issued letters of administration in Rhoda Tutt estate with a $200 bond.
An immigrant woman Krue gensderfer traveling from Germany to Lincoln Neb gave birth to a healthy nine pound son yesterday on train No 9 moving fifty miles an hour between Sand Creek Mich and Montpelier Ohio. The conductor, brake man, collector and porter assisted. the train stopped for warm water and care. The mother thanked the crew with Danka schoen and named the baby Wabash as suggested by the on board collector.
H. H. Belfield, director of the Chicago manual training school, told the Octavius club at the Masonic Temple that luxury lowers scholarship. He cited wealthier communities producing weaker students and warned tobacco as a luxury harming classroom conduct.
