Mrs. Elizabeth Burns aged 86 died at the Home for the Friendless in Delphi this morning at 2 o clock. widow of Thomas Burns founder of the Delphi Journal later owned by Charles Landis. She was a Carroll county resident long seeking quiet and repose. Remains to be sent to Delphi for burial.
James W. Lake once imprisoned for rape died Sunday in an ambulance while en route to the county infirmary after arriving in Logansport with his young son. He had lived between Logansport and his sister’s home in Kendrick Missouri. His remains lie in Killian & Cash morgue awaiting burial tomorrow at 2 PM. a Terre Haute son employed as a normal school instructor arranged the funeral.
Rev H Steininger pastor of the Evangelical church on the West Side was slightly injured in a runaway on College Hill. Driving a light road wagon down Spring street the horse bolted, the wagon struck a tree near Tete Naves grocery, and the horse overturned before stopping at Vandalia tracks. The minister sustained only a few bruises while the buggy was badly damaged.
Bids for the $35 000 Logansport public library proposed with Andrew Carnegie funding will be opened tomorrow at the Logans Port Loan & Trust office. More than ten contractors have submitted bids and officials expect over a dozen by closing. The building must be ready by November 1. Librarian Miss McCullough plans to move to the two doors west on Broadway from the Sutton property.
The Burns family of Race Street Logansport displays strong artistic gifts in five siblings. Will Burns works as sketch artist and cartoonist for Harper's Weekly and papers in Chicago St Louis and Cincinnati. Frank Burns acts in theater and dance and now pursues acting in New York. Robert L Burns designs advertising and decorative pieces and heads to Chicago to work with a lithographing house. All talents arose without formal training.
The Knights of Fidelity News reports a fight to a finish between saloon supporters and anti-saloon forces in Indiana. It urges saloon men to organize and educate voters as Mrs. L. M. Stevens of Maine and Miss Anna Gordon of Chicago lead a W C T U campaign in Indiana cities. The paper alleges collusion between the W C T U and anti-saloon interests with national treasury backing.
Charles A. Grant, formerly with Ferguson and Grant, has accepted a position with John Barnhart and Son.
Mrs Phene Harrington Baker lay dying in St Joseph Hospital after taking morphine in a Railroad street saloon. She drank three beers laced with white powder at Saxony's, in the presence of a friend, then collapsed. Her estranged husband Charles Baker had pursued divorce in Fort Wayne, a factor in her crisis, as nurses warn she may not survive the day.
Word from the hospital states that an unfortunate woman died this afternoon after losing consciousness and never regaining awareness.
Mrs. Saxon mother of Low Saxon suffered a dislocation of the collar bone a finger fracture and head bruises after tripping on stairs at a boarding house on Twelfth street Sunday night. The fall occurred as she started down at the hands of Mrs. Michael Kiehl who conducted the boarding house.
For the first time in its history the American Express company will pay taxes on its mileage in Wabash county. The mileage totals 31 miles with 3 miles in Wabash city. County tax is 224.76 dollars and city tax 18.97 dollars.
Police were alerted that a horse allegedly stolen from a hitch rack between First and Second streets Friday night has been located. The owner had lent the rig to I N Lambert who disappeared with it and reported the loss.
The Circuit Court jury acquitted Lewis Clark and John Blight of attempted robbery at Adams Express transfer office after about two hours of deliberation. Judge had finished instructions by 12 30 and dismissed the jury at 2 15 this afternoon.
Wailton ten miles south of this city will gain a ground floor theater long desired by Logansport. Walton has relied on a second story hall owned by Dr Dutchess. Recently the physician rented to the Masons, leaving Walton without an opera house until now. W H Bishop, a leading resident, conceived the plan.

Jay County farmers report leading Indiana's ninety-one counties in poultry eggs and butter production. They shipped eighty five carloads of eggs totaling 1,014,956 units for 46,598.24 dollars and sold 240,684 chickens ducks and geese for 96,273.60 dollars. Butter brought 23 carloads totaling 450,176 pounds valued at 63,024.64 dollars. Total revenue from these sources reached 199,896.48 dollars.

A new rural route good roads bill, drafted after a mail carrier was stalled by a snowbank near McCordsville, assigns county commissioners township trustees and road supervisors the duty to keep rural routes passable. He adds that wheat prospects are exceptionally strong barring unforeseen disaster, suggesting an immense crop.
Montraville Simmons reported a horse stolen from his stable Saturday night. Early today farmer Mr Minneman found a horse near his home matching the description and notified police. Simmons identified the animal at the Minneman farm.
N. B. Morgan reported a missing horse to police who, after an inquiry, found the animal dead in the road near Georgetown. A single mark suggested exposure as the possible cause of death, with Morgan leaning toward accidental death rather than theft.
Announcement from Tipton Indiana notes Miss Madge Carr and George Culpepper of Posey county will marry at the bride’s home on April 1. Both formerly served as attendants at Loneycliff hospital.
Otto Virgil Anders Morganson died yesterday at 10 am at his grandfather John Anders's home on Daisey Street. He was eight months old. Funeral services were held this morning at eight o'clock from the residence and burial followed in Vietor Cemetery, Pulaski County.
Mrs. Sarah Powell departed this afternoon for Red Key Indiana to spend several days visiting her son Rev. Sherman Powell.
In Hammond Indiana a twenty two year old teacher G S Jaqua escaped from his parents while en route to an insane hospital in Logansport. A police officer joined the pursuit as the youth fought his father on Fourth and Twelfth streets before being coaxed into a cab and taken to the hospital. Overwork is blamed for the mental decline.
City game wardens have been asked to investigate a charge of dynamiting fish by Italians employed at the Kenneth quarries west of the city. It is alleged that on Sunday several Italians discharged dynamite in the river to stun fish and rack up a large haul. No arrests have been made.
President Roosevelt replies to a woman's protest about religious life in Washington. He states his Sundays are spent at church in the morning and with family in the afternoon and evening, asking which pastime she objects to.
The Wabash franchise for the Wabash-Rochester Traction expires in one week with no sign of work starting. Northern Indiana Traction seeks a Wabash franchise to connect with Wabash Logansport line and is likely to be granted. Lau and Stoneman franchise also expires April 15 unless work begins, with no activity indicated.
