William Hawkins fires at intruder at his Dunkirk home, striking a coat filled with shot but missing Joe Wharfield and his wife Mary. Wharfield and Mary deny breaking in, claim a friendly visit. Police arrest the couple. mayor's court session underway.
Cass county schools invite boys and girls to plant and grow corn with a prize for the best ten ears graded by standards. County Superintendent W H Haas leads the effort and predicts practical results beyond classroom theory. The contest ends around August 20 and rules require self effort, choice of land, and selection of ten ears from the patch.
Fred Rau superintendent of the Fairmount glass company in Fairmount was arrested on a complaint by Deputy Inspector Thomas Williams. Williams, who lives in Indianapolis, covers the eastern Logansport and northern Indianapolis territory.
Jacob Geiselman long associated with the Daily Reporter as foreman of the composing room and later a linotype operator has resigned to enter job printing. He has bought an interest in the Morgan Printery on Third street and will assume control of the plant immediately.
The Indiana Retail Merchants Association plans a nationwide style credit and rating system like Dunn and Bradstreet. Every Indiana resident who asks for retail credit will be rated on a graded scale from prompt payers to dead beats. Merchants promise faster decisions and protection from bad debts as the program expands to almost every town and city in the state.
The International Order of King's Daughters and Sons may hold its state convention in Logansport next year if local circles advance plans. Terre Haute hosts this year March 27 29 with Dorcas circle delegates Frances E Wahl Nora Cook Ella Robison Eva Kormer alternates Leah Kramer J W White. Hand in Hand circle to elect delegates soon. Miss Rose Farrington state secretary will assist and has pledged to promote Logansport for 1906.
A farmer driving into town along Sixth Street Bridge near the Eel River saw his horses spooked by a Vandalia train. They dashed onto the bridge, the hub struck a support, and the farmer was thrown rearward but the wagon and horses stopped without injury.
Logansport residents debate the sensational claim about John Hildebrandt described as a 280 pound two foot six inch freak. Letters seek touring offers. April 13 visitors may examine him for a six month southern tour. City plans a bodyguard to thwart possible kidnapping attempts.
The couple Harry Trout and Mrs. Essie Carr, both of the city, were married secretly last Wednesday in Monticello Indiana. Trout is a popular salesman for Ralph Kerby tailor and Essie Carr is well known in town having moved from Kentland. They reside now on the North Side.
Parents and relatives on the West Side clash over a teacher teaching a love duty ballad to first graders. Some accuse the lesson of being scandalous while others defend the value of love stories, arguing education should include human experiences.
James R. Crawford leads the fifteenth annual Indiana Division convention to be held April 14 15 in West Baden Springs with an official ball euchre trip French Lick reception and social events. Horace Starr national president notes Savannah Ga gathering in May and memorial address by J R Harwood with E W Denham as national representative. Logansport to be well represented at state and national meetings.
Fire crews responded to John Young's grocery on Sycamore Street last night at 11 o'clock. The blaze damaged the building and stock, estimated loss around $50.
Attorney John G Meck is confined to his Keystone building apartment after a Thursday evening brain hemorrhage. He remains ill with the condition as doctors monitor his recovery.
New Waverly man Biddy Reed was arraigned in Justice McGregor’s court on a charge of disturbing a public meeting during a concert at the Odd Fellows hall. He pleaded guilty to intoxication, paid fines, and was released.
A Lima Ohio committee representing Market Street Presbyterian church arrived in Logansport to hear Rev Walter Johnston and gauge a possible call. Judge Baldwin refused to comment on Johnston’s candidacy, saying Broadway church is content with their pastor. The Lima group stayed at the Murdock hotel and returned home after a day of inquiries.
Rev. Martin Tirmenstein of St. Jacob's German Lutheran Church in Logansport has resigned after twelve years. He will become assistant pastor at St. Pauls German Lutheran Church in Indianapolis, led by his son in law Rev. R D Biederman. Tirmenstein departs May 1 with a farewell sermon the first Sunday after Easter.
Henry Tucker of Walf & Tucker finds old items among J. C. Merriam papers including a deed dated 1828 naming John Quincy Adams. The document records land transfer west of Fort Wayne from Indiana Lewison to William Scott, authorized by John Tipton under Adams order. Other papers dating to 1810 are included in the collection.
Beginning about April 15 Bluffton Muncie Hartford City and Fort Wayne electric line plans an attack on Lake Erie freight traffic. Car number 49 is being converted into a first class express car and is praised by an employee. The car, formerly used to haul gravel, will now handle large freight loads for dealers along the line.

Joe Frankenthal of Kokomo spent Sunday with relatives in this city, visiting family members and sharing time together.
The Cass County circuit court faces a high volume of divorce filings with grounds ranging from non support to infidelity. Local commentary notes many marriages are troubled and most petitions lead to divorces. Grant and Howard counties show 192 cases with 92 divorce petitions filed in six weeks. The Grant Howard calendar lists the eight higher divisions and Cass County reports sixteen divorce suits.
Audra Morrison of Kokomo, visiting Logansport two weeks earlier, broke her nose Friday in a girls basketball game between Kokomo High School and Veedersberg. Morrison, a Kokomo star and noted beauty, left the floor allowing Veedersberg to surge ahead as the final score read Veedersberg 15 Kokomo 5.
O P Smith of this city and Anna B Fields of Elwood will speak from the same platform at a mass meeting of union men and women in Koe Komo courthouse on April 30. The event aims to draw the largest union audience yet, with Anna B Field as organizer of the Womans Labor League highly regarded for her speaking and organizing.
