Sanford Love, jailed for shooting his 17 year old sweetheart Dottie Murden, claims temporary insanity and says he loved many maidens. He describes remorse, a diamond engagement ring, and losing his Bundled business and 3700 in the bank after the tragedy.
The 1909 taxpayers bulletin shows Logansport valued at 9.58 million dollars, about 3 million more than Kokomo. Marion sits near this level, and Anderson tops by 769 thousand. County auditor George Cann has received the annual reports for distribution.
Last night a pair of twin sons were born to Mr. and Mrs. Sam Talk of Toledo Street, adding two new members to the family.
In Cass County Circuit Court Judge Larry ordered county surveyor Charles R Lybrook to issue a certificate to the county auditor confirming Loren c Frushour’s $123.26 earned for ditch cleaning. Frushour had long fought red tape after Joe Vernon's term as auditor left the contract unverified.
The assistant matron of the Indianapolis girls reformatory arrived in the city to take charge of a girl who overstayed a fur lough. The girl, from a good family, had no home on arrival but a suitable home was found. She was returned to the institution this morning and may be released.
Relatives fear Thompson has killed himself after arriving to shop and vanishing. Police pursue death by own action theory as friends say he had threatened to disappear. He carried little cash but held a bank balance and awaiting money in Rockfield.
Traction Company may place a figure eight roller coaster at Spencer park after abandoning Boyd park. Officials initially planned to move the ride to Spencer but will instead install it at Peru park this year. Local officials previously tried to secure a Spencer coaster and consider Spencer a strong site for amusement income.
The North Side Literary society held a debate on women’s suffrage. The affirmative, led by Mrs. W A Jones Miss Wortley and Col John Foster, won unanimous judge support over the negative team George W Burkhart Oscar Newport and George Pomeroy. A strong literary program complemented the debate.
The Automobile and Motorcycle Dealers association at Patterson agency meets tonight to plan exhibitions and the program for the upcoming motor show. The show runs April 7 to 9, with committees racing to boost success beyond last year. Most exhibiting agents have car arrangements with manufacturers and confirm attendance.
William H. H. Ward, custodian, files charges today in Judge C. Hanawalt's court against nine youths for disturbing a meeting of the Northside Literary society last night. He alleges they sat in the rear, laughed, veiled, and refused to quiet. The defendants Edgar Overpeck George Frost Charles Carson Ollie Stineman Ralph Marvin Floyd Keever James Berry Boyden Smith and Orville White deny louder applause and vow to contest the charges. Ward claims numerous witnesses will support his statements.
B Casaldi of Dunkirk will again seek a saloon license after three prior rejections.
Eli Rauch, arrested by Panhandle detective William Strahle, confessed to taking brass and tools from King Drill Works this week. Found items valued at 14.50 recovered at Rauch's South Side home. Panhandle workers report 86 brass angle cocks and many hose pieces missing from box cars. Rauch bound over to the circuit court with probable prison for larceny.
Johnny Corriden of this city, training with the St Louis Americans at Hot Springs Arkansas, is out of the game for a few days. He fell ill early in the week and was kept off to rest. St Louis papers say his eagerness to return led to overwork and the illness is partly due to climate change.
Wilson Searight who led the drive for a local game preserve in Jefferson township has received another shipment of game birds for the reserve.
Dr M A Jordan through lawyers filed an amended and supplementary second paragraph of complaint in Cass circuit court against the City of Logansport seeking to enjoin rent paid to Dennis Uhl for the West Side sewer. The action challenges a lease and cites a constitutional prohibition as grounds. Also noted is a separate suit filed in Squire Reid's court and Mazzaro's appeal of a Dunkirk liquor license denial.
The high school baseball squad gathered on the Eighteenth Street commons after school for the first workout of the season. Coaches see good material and a schedule will be set soon with other schools in the athletic association.
Bluffton King Piano company seeks a site after purchasing Anderson Piano plant at Van Wert Ohio. The Ohio plant employs 250 to 275 workers and currently runs twelve hours daily. Logansport could win the factory with power at 20 cents per thousand kilowatts and strong manufacturing facilities.
Mrs. John Anderson survived surgery at St Joseph Hospital yesterday and is reported to be getting along nicely.
George W. Pomeroy of Logansport unveils a working model of a mail catching device now on display at the Daily Reporter office. Postmaster General Hitchcock, impressed by the device during a Washington visit, predicts officials may witness a test soon and a government adoption could bring Pomeroy a fortune.
Fifteen Vandalia railroad agents met at the Murdock hotel to learn of the appointment of J. B. Modisette as the new general agent, replacing J. M. Chesbrough. Attendees included O. W. Stair, F. R. McKnight, J. A. Mumert, W. H. McNitt, S. Rosenberger, A. C. Hauck, W. E. B. Smith, J. C. Hutchinson, D. A. Mahoney, J. T. Balser, F. P. Metzner, J. D. Dale, and J. A. Gainer.
The Wallace-Hagenbuck circus will open April 23 in Peru with plans for many new features and an enlarged menagerie. Local turnout is expected, though routing and city visits remain uncertain as show crews assemble for the season.
