Detective Sias Morgan attempted to use his bloodhound to track incendiaries who set fire to the general store of Edward Welch in Grass Creek. The rear was saturated with coal oil and the building and adjacent house burned to the ground. no trail was found and arrests are hoped soon.
John F. Lawrence of Peru searched for his seventeen year old daughter Marie Lawrence and Hazel Clark who had been missing since last Thursday. He believed they joined the Mae Laporte Stock company at Broadway theatre and hoped to locate them in the city or with the troupe. Marion police later reported Marie Lawrence found alone in Marion. Lawrence left for Marion.
Miss Goldie Walters departed today for South Bend after accepting a new job.
Frank Dickman a former saloon keeper and liveryman was found dead above his Indianapolis saloon with a razor nearby. Hattie Brown his companion and James Jenkins the bartender are jailed on bonds as police investigate whether murder or suicide occurred. Brown claims Dickman murdered her and then killed himself. authorities seek answer to the cause amid a history of domestic troubles and prior deaths in the family.
County commissioner Frank Davis and Fred Davis of Mobe clothing will host a dinner tonight at Riks cafe for a small group of friends to mark their joint birthday. Fred boasts of forty six summers, while Frank claims he cannot have seen more than sixteen and insists he is growing younger each day.
Miss Emma Montgomery aged 55 died Saturday at Longclis after five years in the institution. The body was shipped to Plymouth for burial.
J A Settles and wife return from California, recounting a Stockton wreck two passenger trains collided. Engineer 41 Phillips killed instantly, fireman dies later. Settles survived with minor injuries. conductor badly hurt. Phillips stuck to post, reversed levers, air burst killed him. body found fifteen feet away.
William E. Horn a painter from near Metea died last night at 10 30 at St Josephs hospital where he had been confined since November First Funeral will be held tomorrow at 3 PM from Metea Baptist church with Rev J M Bolton officiating Interment in the adjoining cemetery
Cass County and Eleventh District delegates prepare for the April 5 state convention in Indianapolis. Edgar E. Phillips, Cass chairman, notes March 26 primary delegates, with Durbin’s 1908 votes yielding Cass’s 23 delegates. District totals include Blackford 9, Grant 36, Huntington 20, Miami 19, Wabash 20. total 1745 delegates, 875 needed to win.
Two suits, Alice Patterson and Emma C Watts v H Wiler & company, claim damages for injuries in an elevator accident at Wiler store. Both cases were dismissed in Cass circuit court after a compromise. Patterson’s prior small judgment and Watts’ case sent back from Peru were involved. Attorneys would not disclose terms.
The Knights of Columbus plan a formal opening of their new home at 615 Market Street in the last week of April. Grand Knight B Pwfin of Terre Haute will dedicate the new jaume as visiting councils prepare to join a large candidate class.

Dr. E G Kesling son of Granville Kesling Tipton township stock farmer purchased 240 acres near Bloomfield Missouri for 6600. He is a dentist at Bloomfield and has prospered since leaving Cass county.
Rev Walter Johnston of Broadway Presbyterian faces release or continuation at his current charge as the Presbytery convenes in about two weeks. Crawfordsville Church seeks a new pastor and Johnston hopes to move, while local members oppose his departure. Rumors of a union between First and Broadway churches are unfounded.
Township trustees met Saturday at Bel Township Trustee Joh Murphy's office to discuss the public accounting law. They concluded it is a needless expense to employ 100 examiners at $10 per day to audit township and county officials when the county auditor and advisory board serve that purpose.
Isaac Tt Grant died suddenly at his West Side home Sunday afternoon after experiencing back and heart pain. At fifty seven he left a widow and one daughter Ada Mitten of Rossville Indiana. Funeral plans not yet set. Local notices list neighbors and visitors in the area.
Ross Campbell and George Martin clashed in a friendly bout at the Fiscel public sale in Bethlehem township. Campbell fainted after a blow from Martin and remained unconscious for three hours, later staying in bed with no clear medical explanation.
A defective flue sparked a morning fire at Mrs Barnes’s home. The caller opened the fire box but did not pull the hook, delaying firefighters for 15 minutes until a phone call finally triggered alarms. Chief Griffin explained both opening and pulling the hook were needed to send an alarm. A separate chimney spark damaged John Simon’s State street roof before firefighters arrived.
The Prohibitionists of Case county meet tomorrow in the north courthouse to nominate a full county ticket. Eugene Chafin, former Prohibition candidate for president, is expected to draw a large crowd and speak on the local option movement and politics in general. He will also address the evening gathering.
George Pomeroy of Johnson Street reports a delay in the planned test of the mail catching device at the Pan handle yards due to imperfect castings from the radiator works. The test will occur once better castings are produced.
