Gus Girard a painter and decorator was injured when a ladder slipped while he hung muslin draperies to improve acoustics in Stettiner hall. He fell about sixteen feet onto a solid floor, was unconscious, later regained consciousness and showed a split tongue with no broken bones.
Joseph Aaron aged 64 and Rilda Alyce Meyer aged 62 wed in county clerk ceremonies. The bride objected to plain certificates and nearly kept her maiden name Brown, causing a pause before a gilded certificate was issued. Justice John McGregor did not kiss the bride.
After a day of voting rights disputes creditors and owners now place the Watts bankruptcy case with Referee McConnell for decision. The creditors abandoned their contest against Harry Watts and a new challenge arose over attorney voting power. The case now rests in this state.
Miss Mamie S Tippett and Albert K Farnsey eloped to Kokomo yesterday and wed after obtaining a license and requesting secrecy. The bride, formerly Mamie Stanley, recently adopted by Homer Tippett, worked as a stenographer for Superintendent A H Douglass. The groom is an electrician for George W Cann. They returned in the evening.
Families arrive to take up residence on West Market Street and begin new lives in the city locale.
Parents of pupils at the Eighth street school urge immediate repair of the cement sidewalk at the southeast corner of Eighth and High streets. Water pools on the High street side making passage nearly impassable, forcing children to walk on muddy grass.
National Organizer O P Smith leads the Indiana Federation of Labor campaign in Huntington to rally working people and educate the public on conservative labor action. He aims to show capital as a partner and will address an open Huntington Trades and Labor Council meeting with D F Kennedy. Smith plans ten days in Huntington before visiting Kewanna and Toledo.
President Charles Spry of the Cass County Horsethief Detective association announces a regular gathering tomorrow at Trades Assembly hall. The meeting starts at 10 o clock and continues through the afternoon with several candidates on the list for initiation and other important business to transact. All members are urged to attend.
More than five hundred participants enjoyed sport in a Washington township fox chase. Three foxes were driven up this morning but escaped. Later a fourth was caught briefly then released. No animals were killed or captured.
The Gault ditch to drain Cass Fulton White and Pulaski counties into the Tippecanoe river has turned into a lake at Star City. For about two miles water runs a quarter of a mile wide near the big dredge as it continues to operate and make headway.
Prominent agriculturist Silas Stonebraker reports from the countryside that snow largely melted and wheat looks fine, but only one eighth of the usual crop was planted last fall. He cites factors like last fall’s flat corn, crop rotation, and wheat’s recent poor runs as causes. Despite shortages, Cass county farms show first class prospects with strong fruit yields and good overall potential for the year.
Gold Mine owner Mr. Norton plans a Bluffton store earlier in his expanding chain. When opened it will bring his total to sixteen outlets statewide. The Bluffton shop will likely be run by one of his three married sons and their wives assist in his ventures.
Oliver Hand of the Royal Center Record cites a Port Wayne Labor Bulletin story noting Logansport’s lighting is cheap at 15 cents per month for incandescents and questions about maintenance costs and bill collection. He urges running the plant by businessmen, outside politics, to improve finances.
Kroeger and Strain’s ambulance responded to Vandalia shops before noon to aid William Fogerty a blacksmith there seized by epileptic convulsions. He was taken to his mother’s home on Uhl Street for care.
Charles Kestle and Pete Kimner two thirteen year old boys from the city have run away to Indianapolis after an excursion with Principal Holton of the West Side school The boys are entranced by the big city sights and police have been asked to locate them and return them to their anxious parents. Henry Diver is seeking the man who stole his overcoat and bagga ge as a separate note in the item
Police seek a man suspected of taking two coats from Henry Diver’s room at Logan House on Wednesday night. Diver says the theft occurred while he slept and he cannot verify the charges.
Harry Birkenruth, Logansport's representative on the American turf, is making a killing at Oakland California. He has already ridden seven winners of the handicap on Thursday. His friends in this city are rejoicing at his good fortune.
The annual Indiana Association of Elks meeting will convene August 17 and 18 in Muncie. The event is expected to draw nearly all Logansport Elks and be of great importance and enjoyment.
Last evening the Carter family of Logansport went to the depot to depart for Princeton Washington via the Panhandle. A constable attached their railway tickets and baggage to cover a debt claimed by Kroe ger Strain undertakers. The family had deposited 190 for tickets two days earlier and then settled the undertaker bill before leaving.
Panhandle engineer Baker carries a finger in a sling after an incident with a new water bucket for his engine. He says the mishap was his own doing and not the fault of others.
A circuit court judgment of 1542 followed an audit showing a deficit in Mark I Brown ex trustee accounts. The Graves company aided by township advisory boards alleged a 1342 debt, with bondsmen named in the suit. Ferret investigators probe other Cass county trustees amid reports of irregular school funds and revolving accounts.
A plan to organize a city credit rating association aims to unite local business and professional leaders to pursue mutual debt recovery and accurate credit information at low cost. It seeks broader scope than the existing Commercial Credit Exchange and would cooperate with other towns to curb donation solicitations.
An important Commercial club meeting at Bridge City Candy company office will finalize the summer Chautauqua contract. The event shows strong prospects with season ticket sales, renowned entertainers booked, and Biddle Island as the lecture site with easy access and good facilities. Dates are pending but planned for August along with other agenda items.
Douglass of Logansport school returned from the National Educational Association division meeting in Milwaukee. Forty one Indiana superintendents attended, a good Indiana turnout. The gathering was pleasant and social with no major news, preliminary to the July general meeting at Asbury Park Atlantic City.
William Winegardner suffers a severe attack of heart trouble at his son's residence on Water and Liberty streets. He is described as being 55 years of age.
