A Valley streetcar left city heading east with no conductor aboard after the motorman forgot to wait for the switch operator. The stranded conductor walked toward Peru to rejoin his car while passengers watched a comical delay. They eventually reunited mid-track and continued.
At a well attended meeting in the north court room the Country Club raised annual dues for members. Walter Uhl, president of the board of directors, presided as stockholders debated for hours before voting unanimously to implement the increase.
Merchants urge the city to provide free power for new street lamps along Logansport streets. The board of works postponed its regular session to tomorrow while merchants plan to meet at 10 am to press for free electricity.
John Wallace deputy county recorder reminds property owners of mortgage exemption eligibility and filing rules. Filing runs March 1 to May 1 with affidavits submitted to the county auditor or recorder. Affidavit requirements detail who may qualify and who cannot, and stress timely filing to secure the deduction.
Mrs Blaising, a blind singer at the Grand theatre, has a remarkable voice and now supports her mother and daughter with her earnings. After her affliction she found it hard to live, but recently developed her voice and can make a good living for her dependents.
The high school boys elected Elon Champe as baseball captain and Harry Routh as manager at a recent meeting. The season looks strong with good material in the school and practice to start soon.
Will test mail catchers. E S Pomeroy of this city touts his mail distributing and receiving device as being considered by the government and likely to be adopted. The device will be tried by the Pennsylvania in this city next Saturday.
Panhandle engineer McCaslin, who was injured recent ly jumping from his engine at Hartford City, was returned today to his Spear street home from St. Josephs hospital. He is greatly improved.
The circuit court probated Emma F. Reid's will, leaving her husband John H. Reid certain Dunkirk and Heath's addition lots. After his death, property passes to son Charlies R. Reid with mortgage conditions, and to grandchildren. Gertrude Kahler gains $100 at eighteen. Floyd R. and Inez Drake receive Dunkirk lots Nos. 39 and 40. Mary Bebee's will is filed for probate in Cass county.
River water remains muddy after recent rains making it unfit for drinking cooking or bathing. City officials consider drilling wells to provide a pure water supply while pumps flush mud from hydrants and mains. The old council started a crusade but took no further action, leaving residents to endure warm dirty river water through summer.
Otto Kraus was struck and knocked down by an automobile driven by Dr W A Holloway last evening at six o clock on Broadway in front of Kraus store. He dodged a street car and escaped injury and was able to be at the store today.
Andrew Lowman, 33, died in Royal Centre Indiana after taking poison by mistake at his uncle Joan Alber’s Michigan Avenue home. An empty bottle and a sudden death claim the poison caused his passing as relatives note it was secured days earlier. Funeral set at Fletcher’s Lake M E Church with Rev. Imbaugh.
August Erdman fifty one died at St Josephs hospital from blood poisoning after a glass splinter pierced his thumb while opening a bottle. He had been treated for three weeks. survived by his eighty five year old mother. Funeral at 2 pm Wednesday from Rudolph Berndt home under Eagles auspices.
Warren Forber sues Anthony F. Mc Caffrey in Hanawalts Court for damages claiming Mc Caffrey owes transportation costs for travel to Walkerton Indiana where Forber went to assume a farm position. He states Mc Caffrey agreed to pay transportation regardless of whether he took the job.
At the regular meeting of Eel River Iosige No. 417 L O O F this evening a large class of candidates will be initiated. The degree staff of Logan lodge No. 4 % will conduct the work and a smoker will follow the initiation.
Spring cleaning of the streets began with Fred Boerger leading a large crew to wash and repair paved streets. Ice and mud from a harsh winter left three inches of grime while brick crossings will be raised and gutters cleaned, with more gangs joining tomorrow.
A false fire alarm was turned in at nine o'clock by an unknown person from First and Market streets. Fire companies responded but found no emergency as a fruitless run. Police are seeking the offender.
City engineers report a survey finished and residents demand brick pavement from Vandalia line to College hill. If remonstrances are not filed, brick paving could occur this spring with minor grading and a new sewer along the street. The board supports paving but funding remains a concern.
