Bigger Tiles Urged for Sewer Under Wabash Tracks
The Board of Public Works heard Andrew J. Hartz of Toledo Street complain water from an open sewer floods his yard along Erie Avenue to the river. Officials say the Wabash railroad and the Panhandle yards restrict flow. tiles under the tracks are too small. The board ordered the city attorney to require new four foot diameter tiles to be laid beneath the tracks by the railroad and the Wabash Valley Traction Company.

DROWNED MOTHER CLINGS TO SON IN RIVER CATASTROPE
In St Joseph river near Mishawaka Joseph Bowers rescued from drowning after a toy boat overturned when a huge pickerel struck. He carried his unconscious wife Leah Bowers in one arm and urged his son to shout for help as rescuers finally reached the scene after twenty minutes. The mother did not survive and Mr Bowers remained in critical condition awaiting further care.
