A heavy rainfall flooded the jail basement to over twenty inches. Inmates Romanus Lees and Frank Kern sought rescue as water rose. Lees pleaded for Sheriff Butler to stop the flood after he vowed to behave if the water were shut off. Sheriff Butler opened the drain and the water subsided.
Logansport attorneys plan to attend the State Bar association meeting at Winona Lake July 11 and 12. The program includes speeches by William A. Ketcham, Timothy A. Howard, Linn D. Hay, and E. G. Hogate with a principal address by Peter W. Meldrim. A 6 o clock dinner at the Winona hotel follows the sessions and a lake ride. Newton W. Gilbert may also attend to speak.
Mrs Goldie Tucker, plaintiff in a divorce suit in Miami county courts, is visiting with her mother. Tucker contests the divorce and asks for custody of the children. He says a C. and O. wreck left him injured and his wife refused to live with him since their separation.
A major rain and wind storm drenched Logansport and surrounding areas last evening. Lightning struck multiple buildings including churches and homes while streets flooded, the North Side car line halted, and trains delayed due to washouts. No injuries reported.
Garrett Wolfe, two, son of Otto and Mrs Wolfe of 1315 Short Street, drank coal oil from a window Friday. A physician treated him with an emetic, his stomach burned yet he is expected to recover.
A lightning bolt struck near John Evans at 1828 Spear Street hitting Mrs Evans seated indoors. She fell unconscious, revived only this morning after hours of medical care, with no visible damages to the house or surroundings. Her condition is serious though not considered dangerous.
William Smith aged 67 Henry Rhoades 64 and Daniel J Beeler 61 harvested 12 acres of wheat at 30 bushels per acre in nine hours on land owned by Smith near Hill Top. The feat is noted for the harvesters advanced ages.
Elmer Jones fifty two of Landesville and Miss Addie Lagar sixteen of Marion eloped Friday morning. They reportedly went to Chicago and may have married there. Jones has been married three times and a move is planned to return them to Marion to seek dissolution. Jones previously eloped with Addie Lafferty last year and was brought back from South Dakota.

Mrs. Mary J. Sells aged seventy eight years fell as she mounted stairs at 1011 Linden avenue shortly before noon today. She slipped and toppled backward, the impact fracturing her leg just above the knee. A physician reduced the fracture and her condition remained serious.
Local Tri Kappa members returned home after a convention in Rushville where they elected Miss Hazel Harrison of Columbia City as grand president Miss Jean Bishop of Rushville as grand vice president Miss Bessie Baer of Wabash as secretary Miss Ruth Meek of Greensburg as treasurer and Miss Juliet Crittenberger of Anderson as editor of Cross Keys for the coming year.
The Trades and Labor Assembly elected officers at Labor hall on Sunday morning. E Burns of the tailors was named president with Dora Smith as vice president and W Whitehead Jr as financial secretary treasurer. O P Smith of cigarmakers became recording secretary. E L James of barbers the statistician. E Wurpillat of brewery workers the sergeant at arms. Trustees chosen were M Gust, F Hensel, and J Slacemen. The Labor day committee met and heard reports supporting a parade and general celebration. planning will continue next week to arrange the events.
An automobile driven by W. L Simpkins of Lafayette struck a buggy driven by Isaac Yost of Tipton township this morning at Sixth and Broadway. The impact broke spokes on the buggy wheel and damaged the car radiator. Simpkins paid Yost for the buggy damages and left. Onlookers say Simpkins warned the buggy occupants repeatedly. no one was injured.
The young son of Thomas Corcoran of Tanguay Street was injured yesterday when a cellar door toppled and fell on his foot, crushing multiple toes. Medical staff treated him at the scene and transported him for further care.
D M Crismon of Panhandle dispatch er will take his family to Bruce Lake on Monday for a two weeks outing.
Indiana Representative Henry A. Barnhart accuses Ohio Democrat Carl Anderson of trickery over a dollar a day pension bill. He vows to press a regular pensions committee route, criticizing Anderson for rushing the measure and urging passage through proper channels for soldiers’ benefits.
Frank Shaffer, manager of the Star theatre on Third street, lies critically ill at his home after a paralysis stroke last night. He suffered a fourth attack in six months while at Spencer park during a storm and skating rink incident. He cannot speak and is heavily burdened by recent theatre duties and carnival involvement.
Burglars entered William J. Parker's home at 2220 Spear Street early Saturday morning and looted $10. Two morning paper carriers saw two tramps in the alley behind the house around 4 a.m. The only missing amount was $10, not $19 as stated.
The Board of Public Works refused to appeal Judge Larry's decision, then signed a North Street paving contract with Andrews Asphalt Paving after a circuit court writ. The action follows long favoritism toward Andrews, with taxpayers vowing legal challenge and an injunction to halt work.
