Primaries Draw Sparse Turnout in Logansport County Honors

Republicans held primaries in Logansport and Cass county with very light attendance. Delegates were elected for county conventions to be held in the Elks hall Saturday, with lists of precinct delegates and joint senatorial and representative selections across multiple wards and precincts.

Picnic Draws 300 Baptists to Lake Cicott Despite Short Train Cars

More than three hundred Baptist church members traveled to Lake Cicott for the annual picnic. Five extra coaches were added to the State Line train to accommodate the crowd. Tickets reached 270 paid plus children and pass riders. Activities included baseball, races, tug of war and a girls ball game with meals provided. The Panhandle offered discounted round trips. children under twelve paid 15 cents and adults 25 cents.

Billing Rivalry Signals Ringling Circus Visit

A second Ringling Bros. show is slated after Buffalo Bill’s visit as both act headliners compete for billing space in the city. Ringling is set for August 4 with Buffalo Bill appearing a week earlier, signaling a back to back circus run.

Local gun club hosts Spencer park shoot day

A large crowd of men gathered at Spencer park to take part in a shooting event organized by the Logansport Gun Club. Several out of town guests joined the competition in the afternoon.

Cotterman Must Now Stand Trial for Manslaughter

The Indiana supreme court sustained a motion to dismiss an appeal by Robert Cotterman, who killed James Brown on Brown’s Lincoln area farm in May 1908. Cotterman must now be arraigned and stand trial on the manslaughter charge after three terms of court passed without a trial.

Heat Takes Heavy Toll on Panhandle Line

Fred Jasch a Panhandle fireman collapsed from heat while en route to Chicago and abandoned his run at Crown Point. A. Miller another fireman revived after reaching Peru and was sent back. An elderly Panhandle passenger woman on No 24 was prostrated and removed from the train en route to the south.

Senator Barrett of Fort Wayne was the luncheon guest of W T Wilson today in a civic meeting. Barrett spoke on local issues and thanked attendees for their support.

Wife Accuses Husband After Restaurant Row

W A Scott says his wife flirted and forced his resignation. He grabbed a 45 revolver in a kitchen fray at Rinehart Loop, was disarmed by a friend, and police were summoned. Charges were dismissed as the couple contemplates divorce. James Arnold was found intoxicated and jailed, then ordered out of town. Albert Rothermel arrested for driving over a fire hose and failed to appear in court.

Fire damages Woodlawn and Washington grocery

The Henry Smith grocery at Woodlawn and Washington streets was partially burned this morning. Origin of the fire is unknown but it had gained headway before the fire department arrived. Loss will reach several hundred dollars.

Students from St James German Lutheran school enjoyed an afternoon picnic at Spencer park marking the start of summer vacation. Two special cars transported the children to the event.

Reotrain Hubby From Drinking After Beating Wife

Carl McIntosh, jailed on domestic assault charges, was restrained by a Cass circuit court order from drinking visiting his wife’s home or carrying a concealed weapon. The unusual decree accompanies a divorce suit filed by the wife.

Drowned Boy in Tippecanoe River Near Winamac

Walter Shorter fourteen year old son of George Shorter of Winamac drowned while swimming in the Tippecanoe river after exhaustion. Companion Richard Falvey tried to save him but was dragged under twice before escaping to shore. Searchers found the body about forty feet below.

Fire Rips Through Campbell Laundry and Nearby Block

A blaze at Campbell's Laundry on Fifth and Market streets destroyed the laundry and damaged adjacent buildings, including the Singer & Busick saloon. Losses are around 26 000 dollars with tenants and owners suffering major damages. fire crews struggled with low water pressure and tin roofing hampering efforts.
