Logansport endures near 100 degree heat as summer arrives just before 8 a.m. Residents joke about tempering the season with cool remedies and compare local heat to hotter spots like Yuma and Medicine Hat, opposite a cartoon greeting.
Clara Dimond sues for divorce from her 34 year old husband Fred Keever alleging three desertions, repeated lashings with a horse whip, and seeks custody of four children and alimony. The couple married in White County nineteen years ago with the wife a minor at marriage. Fansier and Foskett filed the complaint.
Fire on Sixth street last evening endangered the second floor of the Enyart pop factory in a flat occupied by the Ingram family. The blaze started in a wardrobe. a bucket brigade fought it off. Crepe hung on the door for William Bushing who died yesterday from pulmonary trouble.
A large group from Milwaukee’s local German Singing society left by special car at 9 am for Milwaukee to attend the national saengerfest. Another special car from Dayton, Ohio, also traveled through this morning.
H R Garrison and PD F Harvey of this city received patents for a basket and an oiling device. Eleven other Indiana inventors were awarded patents in the same batch.
John J. McNamara leads a petition in Los Angeles signed by 172 prisoners urging Earl Grey to commute the death sentence of Angelina Napolitano. Women circulate petitions citywide as thousands sign to be sent to Ottawa.
Napolitano petitions swamp the Sacramento Star office as June 22 reports show the Star received 4,200 names for Canada. The Spokane Press notes the wave marks the start of a broader petition drive.
Public playgrounds at the corner of Sixth and Race streets will open late next week. The northeast area will host baseball, the southeast for track practice, and the west end will house younger youths with meter boards. Amusements include horizontal bars flying rings two swinging climbing poles and a giant stride.
Joseph Raumboldt and wife of Bates street left their toddler asleep as they attended a carnival. The boy woke and wandered, later found at Garden street and Wheatland avenue. Police notified, the father recovered the child.

The grandson of Andrew Osborne of 1414 North Street sustained a severely burned and lacerated hand from multiple firecrackers during an early July 4 celebration. The injury is painful but not expected to be serious. The accident occurred last Monday.
The Universalist church of this city filed a Cass circuit court appeal challenging a Broadway paving assessment of $503.27. It claims the street grade lowered property value by $1,056, with damages from sidewalk and wall changes, steps, new sidewalk, alley access, and general property harm.
Mrs Ella M Ballard wife of Dr J W Ballard of this city spoke at Crawfordsville addressing the Municipal League of Indiana annual meeting. She condemned woman suffrage urging women focus on wifehood motherhood and home making while praising traditional female roles.
Judge Nelson issues a mandate forcing the board of public works to sign the Andrews Asphalt contract for North street improvement. The board refused due to lack of council money appropriation, while city and property owner lawyers argued funds must exist before binding contracts. The decision references 1905 acts and 1909 bonds option, with continuation noted on page eight.
Angelino Napolitano faces execution at Sault Ste. Marie on August 9. Her four children play and joke at the Children's Aid society unaware of the crime that left them fatherless. They know only their mother’s frightened defense of her honor on Easter morning.

Green C. Smith, a Black man, was attacked last evening while crossing Biddle's Island by several intoxicated men. He defended himself with a fence picket. Police arrested Tom Hiles and Tom Corcoran. Hiles was fined one dollar and costs. Corcoran awaits arraignment tomorrow afternoon.
Emory Flory returned to his Crawfordsville home after visiting the city as a guest of Archie Wilson.
The Logansport district Epworth League held at Wheatland Avenue M I church closes with Rev E C Dunn elected president and Kokomo set to host next convention. Resolutions praise Rev Dunn and local hosts, thank the district cabinet, welcome visiting speakers, and commend chorus and hospitality. People’s Store thanked for support.
The Logansport Elks carnival concluded with a drawing awarding a motor car to Frank Shoemaker, who rooms with county clerk Edward Hankee. Ticket 22 502 won as ten girls drew numbers and one blind folded girl picked 22 583. Other prizes included hand-painted tankards and Battenburg items won by Florence Cassidy and Matt Keller.
