Bids Opened for City Coal Contract By Public Works Board
The city public works board opened four coal bids for the electric light and water departments this morning and will take time to review before awarding next week. Bidders included John Hedde with several Green County and Belmont mines, Healey Moroney with Pittsburg and Kanawha selections, the Independent Coal company with multiple mine sources, and Tos Kern offering Logan West Virginia splint. Each bid included a $2000 certified check and the board noted this is the first year coal must specify source. The Independent company currently holds the contract, expiring August 30.
