Eastern senators and many congressmen who have long enjoyed railroad hospitality may have to pay their fare on vacation trips this year. A prominent eastern railroad reportedly refused transportation requests from supporters of the Esch Townsend bill and those lukewarm to railroad interests, signaling potential actions by other lines and causing consternation among legislators.
Contractor George Barnes begins permanent improvements at the electric plant after floods undermined the northeast wall. A five foot foundation wall will rise to sixteen feet, extended to join the race wall for flood resistance and future coal storage space.

Master barbers face a one night ultimatum from their union demanding continuation of the half holiday with pay. If the master barbers do not comply tonight, a strike will be declared.
Judge Fremont Alford in Indianapolis ruled the new private banking law unconstitutional for conflicting with the U S and Indiana constitutions. The ruling branded state regulation of private banks invalid and the state immediately filed an appeal to the Indiana Supreme Court. Seth M Richcreek faced charges of failing to file a bank statement with the state auditor.
J L Thomas and Arthur Allen were in a buggy hit a hidden tile ditch on a dark road near Floyd Burton farm. The crash overturned the buggy injuring Thomas whose right arm and shoulder will keep him from work for a time. No warning lights or barriers were present, risk warning urged for travelers and possible damage suit unlikely.
Parker McKinnis son of Mr and Mrs Harry McKinnis of 210 Berkley street broke his left arm yesterday afternoon on Market street while playing with an express wagon. He was taken to a Fourth Street physician for treatment and the break was set.
Harry Halli twenty, of Fern, was instantly killed by lightning while taking shelter under a tree during a heavy rain near Mexico five miles north of Peru. He was with a party of six fishermen including City Marshal George Hann who were shocked but not seriously hurt. The storm caused damage in the Mexico neighborhood.
