Citizens discuss forming an organization to improve Logansport’s industrial financial and moral welfare. A mass meeting in the north court room at 8:30 PM will report progress from committees and urge broad membership to drive a city boom.
Two men, John Schriver and Cory Berry, fell victim to the day’s extreme heat in Chicago. Schriver, digging a trench at 622 Ottawa Street, collapsed after drinking water and lay unconscious for hours before regaining consciousness. Berry, a Panhandle passenger conductor, had just finished a run from Chicago when he collapsed. an ambulance took him home at 820 Spear Street and he woke hours later.
A team of horses hitched to a farm wagon bolted this morning just before noon. They tore down Toledo street and were stopped at the corner of Thirteenth and Toledo. The wagon sustained slight damage.
Harry E. Butler formerly of the Daily Reporter staff and manager of the Six Kirksmith Sisters, a top vaudeville act, appears as a guest at Camp Freezeout in a brief society note.
The Musicians' union plans to consider raising the concert scale at tonight's meeting. Local bands argue the traction company pays visiting acts more than home talent and demand parity with city concert bands at the parks. The move is expected to pass.

The daughter of C A Van Wormer of 830 Race Street fell from a swing at the city playground this morning and sustained a slight lacerated wrist. She landed on cinders under the swings. Dr J P Hetherington attended and no stitches were needed.
Jesse Sherman was arrested yesterday on cruelty to animals charges and arraigned before Judge S G Gifford this morning. The case was taken under advisement by the judge.
A Standard Oil horse collapsed from heat near the Elmore E. Uhl farm two and a half miles east of town after a gas station visit. Veterinarian C. M. Burdge treated the animal for hours until revival. A W S Twells drag horse also fainted on Broadway, blamed on extreme heat.
Labor day celebrations at Spencer Park on September 4 will feature a baby contest limited to twenty five entrants. Mayor D. D. Fickle has been selected as one judge with two more to come. Eligible children range from one month to two years. A planning meeting follows the next Trades and Labor gathering. Contests include sack races and children’s races among others.
Ed Klutzky of Loganport radiator works reported losing a pocketbook containing $70. He left it in his pocket when changing clothes at the plant before work last night and misplaced it this morning. police are searching for the thief.
The board of review visited Walton for a personal inspection and expected line-wide assessment increases. Variations remain far below those in Royal Center and Galveston.
O P Smith resigns as first vice president citing dissatisfaction with management and constant friction. He will not comment further and plans to return to cigarette production, predicting a heated state convention in Evansville.

Mr and Mrs J L Warner of Clay township entertained National Holiday club members at their country home on a national holiday. A big dinner was served to guests including Mr and Mrs Max Grable Roscoe Grable Mr and Mrs A H Douglass Mr and Mrs John Fissel Mr and Mrs Sam Warner Mr and Mrs Charles Ballard and Mr and Mrs G D Orwin.
Miss Mamie Paul of Colton California seeks queen of Coltons merchants carnival. Daughter of Mr and Mrs J J Paul formerly of this city and granddaughter of Mrs C C Beber of 216 Broadway. She rose to prominence after Los Angeles High School graduation and twice won the debating cup.
Martin Elliott received a telegram from Fredrick South Dakota announcing the sudden death of his sister Mrs. William Anderson. She was the twin sister of Elias Elliott of Bethlehem township and was born in this county. She had lived in South Dakota for twenty seven years and was sixty years old.
The Eginhard Schmitt cottage at Foleyville along the Wabash river opened yesterday. A large crowd attended a feast and numerous events made the day highly enjoyable on the riverbank.
The huckleberries that arrived on the market yesterday are the best and biggest in years, delighting buyers with their size and quality.
Logansport Driving association secretary J. T. Tomlinson announces six $1 stake races at the August meet. Entrants include top horses from Texas, Ohio, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri and New York. The track is in prime condition and the field may approach one hundred starters once entries close. Weather will decide the success starting August 1.
Governor Thomas R. Marshall states the Chesapeake and Ohio Company acted in good faith and plans to improve the old C and L line after a Cass circuit court settlement. He explains he sought legal help to probe the 1910 mortgage filing and the Indiana C and O ownership through foreclosure actions and stock control before the master's sale.
John Banta a Logansport veteran visiting Marion for a Taft celebration reported Tuesday evening a purse missing after attending a Soldiers' Home event near the street car station. Police suspect pickpocketing amid crowds. purse allegedly contained $24, three $5 bills, a $106 bank CD, a $100 note and a $25 due bill.
