Lightning kills 21 year old in Shelby county hay barn
Christopher Mahley was struck dead by lightning while unloading hay five miles south of Fountaintown in Shelby county. His brother Jacob was stunned nearby and searched the mow after regaining consciousness. The barn roof was torn but contents were unharmed. The tragedy follows another local lightning death nearby earlier that week.

Accident scales hand when ice pulley injures Hawkins
Anderson Hawkins of Hawkins and Son meat market on Fifth and Broadway was injured while assisting with ice in a second floor refrigerator. A rope pulled into a pulley tore flesh from his left finger and required amputation at the first joint. He escaped a worse fate by a quick jerk.
