Logansport postal employees report the Washington committee on postoffs and post roads is debating the Wilson bill. It would raise clerks under $1,200 to 1200 by July 1, 1907 and then to 1400 later. those under 1000 would gain 100 annually until 1000, with upper grades following similar raises.
A dispatch from South Bend reports a deal closed transferring all northern Indiana railways to the Dietrich syndicate led by the Murdochs ex Governor Durbin and Hugh McGowan owners of F W and W Traction. The price is 4 million dollars for South Bend and nearby lines. The buyers plan to unify the lines and connect directly to Chicago.
Dr. Holloway reported two more smallpox cases this morning in the home of the Tylers at Twentieth and George streets. Both cases are fully developed and were sent to the pest house. Six patients remain in quarantine and if more cases arise, new tents will be erected.
Auditor George W. Cann completed the county wide distribution of school funds based on daily attendance. Township trustees will meet Monday to secure warrants for their allotments. Logansport city schools receive $33,738.66 and Eel township $2,931,440.
Hast ford City constable James H. Mullins through his attorney David Fouts filed suit in circuit court for divorce from Julia A. Mullins claiming dissatisfaction with married life. He plans to present sensational evidence at the upcoming hearing.
Constable Mullins recalls grievances told to friends while his attorney holds the complaint. He notes a morning when Julia allegedly pulled him by the hair, after which he rose earlier than usual.
Doctor Hatch traveled from Cleveland where his mother died of pneumonia while his sister had been ill. He learned of his sister's worsening condition upon reaching home this morning after having been away several days caring for family.
Dr. Charles Scoville, famed evangelist, is slated to visit for union revival meetings with local Protestant churches. A representative recently conferred with the Ministerial Association, and talks secured the Broadway link for the events. Exact dates are still unsettled.
A Panhandle mail train from Cincinnati to Cincinnati was delayed three hours after striking an open swivel in the yards. The derailment threw the engine mail car and baggage car off the track, but no injuries were reported.
Representative Kleckner of Logansport introduces a bill to require an agreement among railroad workers setting up a railroad relief association to release companies from liability in case of injury.
The Logansport and Lafayette interurban line near completion may open by spring pending weather. Eight miles of track ballast and grading from Lafayette to Delphi advance as crews push toward the Wabash River bridge near Burrows. The Wiki Cat creek span near Lafayette will become the longest interurban bridge in the state.
The Mental Culture club met yesterday and elected Mrs. Tanguy as president, Mrs. Graham vice president, Mrs. Brown secretary, Mrs. Howard treasurer, Mrs. DeHart press reporter, with Mrs. Tucker and Mrs. Tanguy as critics. The group plans a yearlong study of France.
John Anderson of Hartford City, in a disordered state, pleaded for his wife’s consent to murder her and then shoot himself. His wife thwarted him with officers arriving. Anderson is jailed in Blackford county and facing transfer to Logansport. Loss of his Johnson Glass job triggered the mental breakdown.
Auditor George W. Cann reports Cass County gross indebtedness at 89 737.31 dollars with 50 000 bonded debt and 39 737.35 in county orders. Net debt stands at 77 655.99 dollars after cash on hand. Taxable property totals 22 670 200 dollars after mortgage exemptions, supporting a compareable state levy. The county lists 222 miles of gravel roads and 1 038 miles of unimproved highways.

A New York World report says in Ansonia Connecticut chamber of society women began the silence cure by keeping the mouth closed. They claim it yields marvellous results for the patient and may bring peace to families as talk = energy waste and health risk. T P R association will debate the subject at its next meeting.
Frad Landis won the Huntington postoffice contest. John Glenn, Landis' man, was appointed yesterday by President Roosevelt. Will H. Hart, the current postmaster, campaigned for another term. Walter Bradfute, Bloomington Telephone owner, was appointed postmaster of Bloomington today. Representative Chaney recommended S. J. Laughlin for Linton postmaster.
