City council votes unanimously to let printing work by contract via the printing committee. The move aims to curb unbudgeted purchases amid past high printing costs and coal bills, while Katie Kime’s $215 compromise case settles after a stalled supreme court review.

A horse trotting near a hotel, startled by a coal wagon, pulled loose its halter and bolted along Market to Third then Broadway. Men chased but could not stop it until Bert Kenzie and Chase restrained the animal near the stable. No damage to horse or wagon.
George P. McKee former Logansport mayor is appointed doorkeeper of the Indiana state senate through J. G. Powell Cass and Pulaski counties. The senate began its session in Indianapolis today.
Baker and Simmons clashed at a Kenneth road house with a revolver butt and a poker used as a weapon. Simmons filed an assault affidavit, Baker countered with intoxication charges, and a mayoral stopgap offered fines. Judge Anderson of the federal court yesterday heard argument on the affidavit in the St. Joseph Navigation company suit seeking a temporary injunction against the St. Joseph and Elkhart Power company to restrain building a dam across the St. Joseph river between Elkhart and Mishawaka. R H Smock of Shorte and Van Steenberg will organize a lodge of the United Ancient Order of Druids in Logansport. The order is a fraternal society aiming at mutual help and not an insurance order. Promoters believe a sizable grove can be formed in the city.

Judge Larry ruled for Clyde Musselman in the case brought by Prosecutor Walters to commit him to the Jeffersonville reformatory on a lingering sentence. Musselman had been released from the reformatory and returned to Logansport, with no evidence tying him to the robbery or violating parole. The state board of health opened today amid alarm over smallpox in multiple areas. Dr. Cox of Spencer reports a Chavis family of eleven ill with the disease, costing the town daily for care and supplies. Edwardsport, with 700 residents, reports thirty cases and requests aid as no quarantine or relief is in place. The issue will be considered at tomorrow’s meeting.
R H Beck of Los Angeles says a turtle weighing about 800 pounds and seven feet across is the largest tortoise ever caught. He recently delivered it and fifty eight others to Baron Rothschild's son in London for a private museum. The giant, known locally as the devil tortoise, reportedly aged around 300 years and avoided capture by natives who feared disaster.
