Louis Berwanger senior member of Berwanger Bros clothiers and Hub store on Fourth street died this morning by self inflicted gunshot in his Eighth street home. He had been melancholy and ill for days and left no clear reason for the act. An inquest is set for nine tomorrow. He leaves a wife and three sons.
Hoosier Poultry and Kennel association workers under Sol D Brandt prepare the rink for the third annual show opening Thursday morning. Carpenters build coops and kennels as entries flood in ahead of Thursday close.
The final of a three game series between Wabash and Logansport will be staged at Babcock alleys in Kokomo on January 22. Local supporters are expected to travel as Broadway Bowlers prepare to join the event after a split of the first two games. The opener was won by the locals, while the return match at Wabash favored the visitors.
A Binghampton special reports a radical Erie Railroad reorganization that will merge eleven divisions into three monster divisions with terminals at Hornellsville New York Chicago and Huntington Indiana. Thousands of engineers firemen and conductors must relocate as Huntington becomes a new official headquarters for principal officials.
John Bradfield has resumed his studies in the medical department of the University of Michigan, continuing his education after a pause. He will focus on completing his curriculum and advancing toward his degree.
In a tin box under a bureau lock six miles north of Marion, Indiana, relatives found 8141.29 in gold silver and currency in the late James Thompson's home. Executor G W Thompson, nephew, collected the funds and deposited them in a Marion bank while probate of the 1900 will proceeded in circuit court.
J. K. Vetter of Wood and Ward arranged for the visit of Two Merry Tramps in the city today and the company plans to perform here soon.
W. L. Taylor, former attorney general, enters active candidacy for governor while seeking support from friends. He has long been prominent in state Republican politics and aids Governor Durbin on the biennial message. Rumor says Durbin may back Taylor later. Marion’s George A H Shideler plans a swift gubernatorial bid after the legislature opens. Warren County GOP cites Senator Fremont Goodwine as a declared candidate.
Mrs. Joseph C. Ayres of Shultztown was judged insane by a sanity commission after evidence that she poisoned her husband. The panel visited the Ayres home where Mr. Ayres lay feverish from the poison, doctors countered the effects, and the commission recommended admitting Mrs. Ayres to Longcliff hospital.
Ice clogged water wheels sealant buildup prevents water power from driving the electric light plant. Despite several thawing attempts, the wheels remain blocked and coal must continue to furnish power.
City Water Works Superintendent A. W. Stevens and City Plumber Bradley were ice breaking near the water works plant when a large ice cake tipped, throwing them into neck deep water. They suffered severe colds but were helped from the river by bystanders as Joe Herrmann, a letter carrier, helped rescue a boy and Judge Dykeman was injured by a fall on the pavement.
The committee member stated the 20 percent raise request reflects a full day’s work on a 10 mile run, clarifying it does not guarantee 20 percent for every worker but aims for at least a 12 percent higher wage overall.

Joe Herrmann a letter carrier saved a lad from drowning in the Eel river Sunday morning. Everett Teal slid onto thin rubber ice as he coasted down the embankment, the ice broke with the boy immersed, and Herrmann arrived with timbers to help the boy land.
A plan describes building a theater or office building with lodge and club rooms in a residence district. It argues the project will be costly to start but could double needed sums and provide the lodge with a steady income.
From the court house steps Charles A. Smith acting for Auditor Gard and county commissioners offered county owned lots in the T. C. Whiteside addition to Logansport for sale. Washington Neff purchased three lots for 1250 dollars. Six lots remain unsold and will be re advertised. Purchases were Nos 47 48 and 49 in the northwest quarter of the addition.
County commissioners order all county officers to obtain approval before spending. The rule, enforced for four years, aims to curb wasteful expenses as auditors review necessities. McGovern cites an assessor buying two inkwells for 3.50 each instead of ink. The requisites contract was let at 2038 dollars, 332 under the appropriation.

Judge Dykeman suffered a head laceration and body trauma after slipping on his steps Sunday afternoon on lower Broadway. A physician treated him at the scene and attended to his injuries.
Chicago based wage adjustment committees of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen and the Order of Railroad Conductors seek a near twenty percent increase. They plan talks with railway officials in St Louis, with chairmen and grand officers acting mainly in advisory roles unless an agreement seems unlikely. William G. Lee notes full approval is not expected.
A fox captured after a New Year’s fox hunt in Miami county was placed in a barnyard with chickens. The fox, named Reynard, was tended by Capt. John W. Wolpert of Peru. Sunday morning the crowing rooster provoked the fox to attack. Wolpert intervened and the fox was returned to its cage for confinement until further notice.
Mrs. Thomas Loftus, aged 65, died last evening at 7 30 at her home 1406 Wright street after a long illness. Born in Ireland she came to Logansport twenty years ago leaving seven surviving children John David Celia Thomas Daniel Margaret and Mrs John Radkey. Obsequies at St Vincent de Paul church Thursday at nine with interment Mt St Vincent.
Sam Ludwig a Broadway fireman who was run over by the hook and ladder during an exercising trip weeks ago left hospital today. He visited the station house briefly and said he feels fairly good though still weak. It will be two months before he can resume duty. He will stay with his brother on Miami avenue until then.
Rev W E Biederwolf, formerly of the city, reports thriving revival services in Marion. Opera house attendance last Sunday reached eighteen hundred with four hundred standing and a thousand turned away. A choir of one hundred roccies provided music as two hundred men professed conversion at the close.
Miss Clara Semans, guest of Dr and Mrs E L Semans during a two week Christmas vacation, has returned to Ligonier to resume her role as a public school teacher.
Fire departments responded to a South Side blaze at 11 10 this morning in the Barrett property on Humphrey Street occupied by the Spencer family. The fire started in the attic and spread rapidly before water was applied. Furniture and house damage is estimated at about 500 dollars.
St Margaret's court will convene tomorrow evening for officer elections and quarry dues. All members are asked to attend, per the secretary's note.
