Two sides to every temperance talk debated in Logansport

W H Brubaker refused a challenge to debate temperance with Frederick Grimme at Ninth Street Christian Church after Dr Eaton’s lecture. Grimme pressed for a public debate while Brubaker stood by. Grimme announced intent to debate any temperance speaker brought by the Anti-Saloon League. Dr Eaton is scheduled to speak at Market Street M FE Church. Grimme plans to attend and debate if Eaton agrees. Separately, county tax actions against Thomas A Spry Charles Spry and a sister proceed with restraining orders preventing increases on the tax duplicate as hearings set January 6 before Judge John S Larry. The tax ferrets claim sequestered taxes dating to 1880 totaling about three thousand dollars. a related suit against Judge Daniel P Baldwin seeks about fifty one thousand dollars.

Life saving cableway to aid wrecked ships proposed for coast

A revenue cutter now under construction at Wilmington will head to the Pacific coast with a first life saving cableway. Inventor Spencer Miller of New York has a device approved by the United States and other governments.
