Logansport Home Telephone Company hikes business rates from 18 to 30 dollars per year after January 1 1994. Five year subscribers remain unaffected if signed before construction, as extensions and long distance upgrades justify the rise. Company cites substantial investment and maintenance costs as reasons.
State Factory Inspector McAbee unveiled a Wolpert instrument to test air quality in Indianapolis plants. He demonstrated excessive carbonic acid in a large factory employing 150 women and vowed to pressure owners to fix faulty ventilation across sites.

F M Starr will be captain of the host and Isaac Shidler principal sojourner. J A Getty was appointed captain of the guard. Other officers to be announced by the high priest prior to installation.
The clerk of the department of commerce and labor requests Clerk Liennemann to compile a complete list of charitable institutions in the state for the sick, insane and homeless. He has provided a Logansport sample including the orphans’ institution.
The Patrons of the Local Opera House have no fear of conflagration with a chemical fire engine installed at Dowling Opera House. The committee appointed by the common council inspected the setup and deem it adequate to cope with any fire that may be started during performances.
In Anderson a drill near the central power house of the Indiana Union Traction company struck a hard object and, as the drill continued, a sudden gushing rush of water swamped the site, initially believed to be an artesian well. A man named Johnson held the drilling contract and faced the unexpected flood.
Justice Kloenne notes James Cheney was a member of a local club formed by Logansport men born in 1917. Cheney died Sunday at his Fort Wayne home and will be brought here by special train for burial with a brief graveside ceremony at Mt Hope.
The theater adds a chemical engine with fire escapes on three sides after a committee review with Manager Dowling. Obenchain & Boyer installed the unit, Chief Viney calls it No. 1 and will supply a fireman for each performance, with three hose lines ready to reach all areas.

John Schnitz, a Panhandle employee, had his left leg broken yesterday afternoon about 4 o'clock while helping load rails in the south yards. A heavy rail slipped and fell on his leg, breaking the bone above the ankle and bruising him. Wall & Tucker’s ambulance took him to St. Joseph’s hospital where Dr. J. P. Hetherington treated him.
Special agent Joseph B. Marvin details Alaska's World’s Fair display in St Louis. A two story main building 100 by 50 feet will host a relief map, mineral and fur exhibits, and a large hall funded by a 50 000 dollar appropriation. Native Hydah houses and totem poles flank the main structure. Top floor will feature Alaska landscapes. Six Alaska natives will construct the native buildings. Marvin will arrange space for an Alaska garden.
No performance this evening as When Her Soul Speaks was canceled this morning. The high grade entertainment failed to draw buyers while Whitcomb Riley’s appearance had overshadowed other shows. Next up is The Fatal Wedding on Thursday night.
J W Bussard returns to duty after vacation while Henry Horst is off. Frosted city mailboxes froze solid, making deposits impossible as carriers could not unlock lids. A worker was dispatched to thaw the boxes this morning.

John Dear a former Panhandle engineer for the city died Saturday night at his Chicago home. A telegram announcing his death was received by his sister Mrs Ed Douglas of Clay township and by Siasien Dee of Wilson, too late for them to learn of the loss.
