The case John TH Stephens vs Chariey BE Pauley and Gertrude Pauley over commission on real estate sale was near jury when Stephens’ attorney offered to drop the suit if the defendants paid him 50 dollars and covered costs. The offer was accepted and the jury was discharged.
Caro lyn DeHart and Florine DeHart dismissed their case in circuit court after an insurance company agent paid the $6 judgment from a justice court action originally filed for $50. William DeHart also settled his suit against the same company by paying $452.57 plus costs, leading to dismissal of both actions from the docket.
The DePauw university trustees meet in Indianapolis next week to report progress on securing the Carnegie library endowment. Carnegie offered 50000 dollars for library erection if an equal sum is raised as endowment. President Hughes and field agent Dr Towne have pursued other endowments while not neglecting the library fund, with believed timely funds forthcoming.

A court of inquiry in Corydon led Deputy Game Warden J W Newhouse to obtain warrants for George Messmer John Boist Ben Boist and George Whitner all of Louisville on hunting without a license. Messmer was arrested in Louisville and bonded for trial while the others remain at large. Requisitions will be prepared to bring them to Indiana for trial.
Charles R. Shively of Richmond, supreme chancellor of the Knights of Pythias, says he will not repeal the proclamation annexing Northwest Territories to Manitoba. He cites the Texas-Angona ruling that denies a supreme chancellor power to alter a proclamation by a former chancellor.
The county commissioners concluded a week long session with several appointments. Thomas Flinn was named direct commissioner, Dr J W Ballard the county physician, Henry C Brown appointed janitor of the courthouse, and George Braun became official barber at the county jail.
The Sharp Shooters defeated Clifton Avenue 2 to 1 in a lively pele game. Referee Zimmmerman impressed players with quick knowledge, while Clifton players criticized the Central league for bluster.
The Ohio railroad tycoon who sold the C, H and D to J Pierpont Morgan then had Morgan hold the line, which Morgan later sold to the Erie. The Erie rejected the deal after discovering the system was overextended. Morgan bears the loss, estimated at 10 million, and has placed the system in receivership to expose the situation.
The Bradfield No. 1 ditch was sold to Meredith and Kronigan of Hartford City for 2426 dollars. Regular Logan division No. 110 O. R. C. holds a meeting scheduled for Sunday December 10.

Grand Army of the Republic chief Corporal James Tanner warns Civil War veterans are dying rapidly. He cites 43,855 deaths in the year ending June 15, 1905, and says fewer than 200,000 remain. A bill would raise pensions from 8 to 12 dollars monthly for those with at least three months service, including widows.
The Srooklyn Eagle warns that pests cost farmers time and money as insects threaten vines trees shrubs and crops. It argues birds should be relied upon to curb grubs and beetles, and that killing birds raises farm costs and consumer prices until public reform begins.
Mrs Daisy Bowers of Twelfth Street has Bingham arrested for defrauding a boarding house keeper claiming $45 for board and room with no intent to pay. Bingham faced assault and battery charges after allegedly ejecting her from his barber shop. Justice Reid’s court will hear the case Tuesday. Miss Pauline Ellsworth was also arrested over a $35 board bill though she arranged to settle.
An appeal to the appellate court challenges the Newton county court order to finish the Kentland court house. The project halted after a prior contract was voided by the supreme court. A new contract and bond sale are planned for the 30th, as rival towns Goodland and Morocco fund the injunction fight to move the county seat.
The Citizens Club holds its regular meeting Monday at 8 at the Carnegie auditorium. Dr A J Hermann presents an Ethical and Moral Study of Christian Science, likely to spark discussion. Dr D Delzell discusses Positive Mental Attitudes. Attendance is free and open to all.
Master Wilbur, the son of Mrs James Wilbur of 419 Helms Street, disappeared after dinner yesterday. Police found him after 4 o clock, gazing at toys in a downtown store window, saying he came down to see Santa Claus.
Arrangements allow use of Carnegie Hall library building and forum for tomorrow’s regular services. All members are urged to attend at the usual hours.

Mrs. Zoa McCombs of Royal Center was seen visiting the city today, prompting social chatter about her appearance and activities during a routine civic run.
The mayor stayed at his office this morning during illness and signaled a veto of the tax ferret ordinance. He argued the law already prevents its effect and noted sequestered county taxes were copied to the city duplicate, saving about $1,000 by stopping a second fee. City Controller Middleton and City Treasurer Boerger confirmed the copying saved the city money.
