A brick partition wall failed at Morris livery barn on Market street Saturday night, dropping the second floor laden with feed and vehicles onto five horses. All animals were freed by Sunday morning with no injuries. only the building sustained damage. The plant will be rebuilt and remodeled into a modern stable.
Wabash engineer Martin W. Jamison died at his Peru home after a sudden apoplexy attack. He had recently returned from railroad insurance work and had worked for the Eel River road before moving to Peru in 1889. He leaves wife Lou and daughter Edith, with service to be held Tuesday at two o'clock under St John Commandery Knights Templar, Peru Cemetery burial.
United States Court of Claims hears a suit over whether South Carolina can run a state liquor system without licenses. The state has paid about $20,000 in wholesale and county licenses for 8 years to operate a central and 112 county dispensaries. George H. Gorman argues the Internal Revenue laws apply to states and that the dispensaries show a profitable enterprise with 1891 sales of over $2.3 million and net profit of about $545,000. He warns a ruling for the state could upend tariff and tax principles.
A report notes that adopting a reciprocal tariff scheme for another country would be exempt from duties for state consumption, but warns that setting such a precedent could create dangerous consequences for future policy and international trade relations.
The First Presbyterian church filled its auditorium for communion and baptism. Eighteen were baptized and ninety six joined the church, 37 by letter and 59 by profession of faith, lifting total membership to 571 and leading Logansport Presbytery. Rev. W P Kane of Wabash College preached two fine sermons, morning and evening, lauded for intellect and mastery.
A new fraternal association is forming in the state with headquarters planned for South Bend. Governors will be men from South Bend and Mishawaka, and the company will be named The American Standard Bearer. Incorporators listed include Timothy E. Howard George M. Fountain Vincent Brunner Edwin L. Clark W E Borley William M. Clark and E R Borley.
Pisgah high school building in Jefferson township burned Saturday morning around 7 36 o clock, a frame structure with no classes since Thanksgiving. Residents suspect incendiarism as cause while loss including students books is put at about $600.
Logansport experiences a building boom with scarce tenement houses and store rooms. Police report shows eight vacant business rooms, three in the business center, and eight vacant houses, few desirable. About a hundred families board due to lack of homes. List of available properties includes 419 Broadway and 519 Broadway among business houses, and 1300 Spear, 415 Eighteenth, 1129 Broadway among dwellings.
The Wayne County Historical Society is urged to pursue purchasing Governor Oliver P. Morton’s Centerville homestead six miles east of Richmond. If funded, the society would hold the property as trustee, using it as a county HQ and relics repository with schoolchildren invited to donate up to ten cents.
Pittsburg council staggers through a long night over pending railroad ordinances as the Wabash and Pennsylvania seek multi million expansions. Party lines blur and accusations fly as a new vote on the Wabash ordinance looms tonight.

An attempted burglary at the West Side home of William Roles was interrupted when Roles appeared at night. The intruder had pried a window and stood on the sill before fleeing when spotted. No injuries reported. Police likely investigating the break in.

Oxford hosts twenty one colleges seeking distinct scholarship rules. scholarships worth 1500 dollars yearly for three years will fund first Oxford beneficiaries in fall 1904 with awards in early 1904.
Mr Roles and a robber clash in the streets. Roles jumps away and is not pursued. He telephones police but no clue to the thief is found.
In Lafayette Circuit Court Judge DeHart named Joseph Hanna James Sharp and an unnamed Justice to form an appraising board. They will set damages for property owners along the old Wabash and Erie canal bed as Fort Wayne Logansport Lafayette Traction and C L L Railway seek a right of way. Defendants have filed exceptions. after damages are set the court may condemn.
Mayor Sidney A. Vaughn united Theodore Sample and May Shay in marriage at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Sample on Fifteenth and Spear streets. The ceremony took place Saturday at eight o'clock and the couple will return tonight to Chicago.
Mrs. John Stetler, patient at Longcliff insane hospital, given leave to visit Huntington for Thanksgiving, attempted suicide by shooting herself in the head. The deep forehead wound is serious but she survives and is believed to recover.
Logansport Indiana December 1 1902 J H Reitemeier writes to Mayor Vaughn withdrawing his resignation as chairman of the claims committee after strong bid to stay on from local tax payers and businessmen.
Frederick Landis traveled to Washington for the opening session on Tuesday morning. He backs Cannon for speaker of the house and predicts clear selection. A Republican caucus will be held there tonight and Landis expects the Indiana delegation to gain committee influence. He does not take his seat until the next term.
Dr. George R. Parkin, commissioner for Cecil Rhodes scholarships, returned from England aboard the Cunard Campania. He reports about two hundred scholarships to be distributed in the states and colonies and says he has consulted with Oxford authorities regarding their selections.
Go es acquit, Mayor Vaughn rendered his decision this afternoon in the Trotter diamond theft case releasing David Hufnagle from all implicated in the matter. He found the evidence insufficient to bind him over to the circuit court. Mrs Trotter and J D Taylor jeweler failed to identify the stolen diamonds from Hufnagle’s pocketbook.
A Panhandle crew works at Peoria Junction to Monnett to begin double tracking toward Trimmer. An army of men and teams live in tents near the junction. The project is in early stages as it aims to connect with the north end. Kenneth marks the end of this year's work.
Firemen were called to The Cottage on North Street where an overheated stove in the kitchen set the floor afire. Emma Vinson operates the resort and the chemical engine quickly extinguished the blaze after the stove was moved. Damage expected to be slight.
The Terre Haute Toiler reports committees backing O P Smith of Logansport for the union labor revival organizer post to Gompers. Smith, an eloquent speaker and seasoned organizer, will spend about a month in Terre Haute once commissioned, expected within the week.
Thomas Connelly died at 7:45 this morning in St. Joseph's hospital at about seventy five. He long served at St. Vincent de Paul parish and his funeral is set for Wednesday at 8 am with Rev. Father Mark presiding, Mt. St. Vincent burial. The hospital sisters will receive visitors to view the remains. Truman Vernon Clark, infant son of Mr and Mrs Edward Clark, died this morning at 7 at the family residence in Shuitztown.
Dr. Allison, en route from Indianapolis to Camden, was a guest last night of Dr. Frank Brown of Shultz and Hetherington's office, sharing a cordial city social occasion.

Thomas Collins, Panhandle employee, sues for 12000 dollars claiming negligence by other railroad workers caused his arm injury near Peoria junction nearly two years ago. Jury empanelment took the morning and evidence is being presented this afternoon. A verdict is expected tomorrow afternoon.
Logansport heirs to Katherine McGuire die in Young America contest the will for nearly fifty thousand dollars as her daughter Mrs Charles Miller claims property. The case is set for January 10. Margaret Shepherd, through attorney D C Arthur, sues Otis Shepherd for divorce alleging marriage on November 2 1859 and separation on September 17 1900 after abandonment.
Final report in the guardianship of Chester G. Sharp, minor heir of David P. Sharp, has been filed. Walter Maiben, through attorney George W. Walters, files suit in partition against his brother Charles H. Maiben, claiming they are heirs of John T. Maiden and seeking division of the estate. George Geiger granted divorce from Minnie Geiger. Plea for new trial in Frank Washington case filed.

Program includes Devotional Quotation and Paper by Mrs Van Buskirk on The First Printing Press and The First Ecumenical Council with Acts XV Jerusalem Origin under the Jebusite David Solomon and Solomon's Temple. County commissioners met in regular session to audit election expenses. The full day session yielded little of importance, with Commissioner McGovern noting in the afternoon that nothing major remained to be addressed.
