Michael Spitznogle was killed by a lightning strike while plowing a rented wheat field owned by J W Sager. His son Carl found him and called his mother as Coroner Miller and Killian and Fecloskey were notified. Fred Six, receiver for the Johnston hotel, leases to W H Harrison who plans to run the Johnston on the European plan with a cafe. Guests will pay only for what they eat. Harrison aims to revive the property, formerly Barnes, amid discussions of sale to recover invested funds. Other items note mortgage disputes and a potential suit over a Galveston fatality.
Warner Sturgeon of this city drove Pensacola in the Warren races yesterday. While warming up the three year old mixed race the horse reared and fell on the sulky. Sturgeon escaped injury. A new sulky was provided and Pensacola won the next heat taking third place.

A log wagon wheel slipped off yesterday afternoon at the south end of the North street bridge causing a blockage on the car track. The wagon was unloaded to replace the wheel and logs reloaded. The horses were frightened but did not run away. One horse later fell at Second and Market streets but sustained no injuries.
Kokomo Red Sox visit Spencer Park for the decisive third game of the season series against local M. F. team. Strong will pitch for the locals as Michelle joins Marion in the Northern Indiana league. A large crowd is expected after the 3 to 2 win over Marion Owls and rain delays earlier. Royal Italian band from Robinson Carnival will perform free at the park tomorrow night replacing the Elks band.
John Grey was arrested last night on the charge of assaulting Miss Jessie Whitworth and will answer to a second charge of provoking in Judge Hana walt's court. The charges were filed by Minnie E. Myers, a chamber maid at the Murdock hotel. Grey was formerly with the Salvation Army and was discharged after attempting to disrupt Captain Smith's meeting.
Campers from Kienly Island and Freeze Out accuse Indiana Union Traction of holding them up with a fare increase from five to ten cents for a two and a quarter mile trip. They plan to appear before county commissioners in September to restore the five cent rate and challenge franchise compliance.
The body of Homer Cassube, who died by his own hand in a New York hotel, arrived in the city with his father. The trunk he shipped to this city may contain papers to explain the tragedy, but the trunk has not yet arrived. Funeral set for Sunday at 2 30 from the Linden avenue home with interment at Mt Hope.
Mrs. F A Busjahn and her daughter Marie spend a weekend as guests at the Ferguson cottage on Lake Maxinkuckee.
The forty fifth Cass County Teachers institute begins Monday at 9 30 am in the high school with county superintendent Haas arranging a week long program. Instructors include A J Kinneman F S Lunt and Mrs EB McConnell. Trustees will receive lists of attending teachers and decide school start dates and a truant officer for the coming year.
The police board met to offer a $100 reward for the capture and conviction of fire bugs who tried to burn three properties in the East End yesterday morning. Adelbert Flynn suspects his barn was marked, but a patrolman presence drove the arsonists away. The board authorized $700 to be paid for evidence leading to arrests.
Charles Kieckner of this city is expected to speak at the major Fort Wayne Labor Day meeting. O P Smith, also from this city, was invited but already spoken for in Kokomo and recommended Kieckner.
The Panhandle will run three excursions into the city tomorrow. One train comes from Cincinnati another from Springfield Ohio and another from Kokomo. Departure for return trip is 6 45 p m tomorrow evening.
