Local chatter swirls after a court injunction over a sewer dispute with Dennis Uhl. Gossip claims the council plans to grant Uhl a West Side sewer franchise to recoup a $67 491 09 debt, enforcing taps and monthly charges, but officials deny any such move and cite awaiting the final hearing.
The Western Union Telegraph company versus the state board of tax commissioners was argued in chambers by United States Circuit Judge Francis E. Baker and taken under advisement after 7 p m. The plea for a temporary injunction to stop certifying the state assessment was presented by Charles W. Miller for the board and S O Pickens for Western Union. J F Wallick of Indianapolis attended.
A group calling for free repairs to old Singer and New Home sewing machines has operated in Huntington County. They claim a consolidation of the two companies and promise free service. Machines were collected and later shipped away without return.
In Fenker Hill Mr. Good editor of the press, a temperance advocate, argues that the local remonstrance against saloons has worsened community morals and conditions more than licensed saloons ever did. He contends the move harms the town economically and socially.
Early morning accident on the Wabash at Sixteenth street ends in the death of a Jersey cow after it collides with a westbound passenger engine. A boy herding cows is blamed for the incident as the train whistles but can not avert the collision. The dead animal is removed to the soap factory by the city’s undertaker.
The match between the country club team and Marion scheduled for this week has been postponed to September 26. A return game with Kokomo will be played here on October 5. No other golf activity is planned during the hot spell.

Logansport Red Men ready for the twelfth annual pow wow at Lafayette on Tuesday September 4. A parade at 11 a.m. offers $15 for the tribe with the highest membership in line and $10 for best appearances. Afternoon races at the fair grounds total $900 in purses. Evening events include a haymakers parade and moving pictures on the public square. Speaking and association meetings occur in the pavilion on the hhautauqua grounds. Excursion rates apply on all roads.
The annual state convention of the Ancient Order of Hibernians is under way in South Bend. Dave Loftus, present secretary from this city, seeks reelection with four candidates opposing him. A large benefit is planned for Wednesday night.
Mr and Mrs H E Bonnell of 1227 Erie Avenue and Mr and Mrs H E Wildermuth of 22 North Street are back home after a trip through the East.
Mrs. Ida Farmer claimed her Sixth Street plants were flipped upside down. She rushed to neighbor Mrs. Wright to accuse her, but Wright denied it. Farmer filed an affidavit charging provoke. the case is set for late this afternoon.
May Millstead files for divorce in circuit court alleging repeated cruelty and failure to provide for herself and children. She claims her husband Frank Millstead insulted her publicly and accused her of infidelity with neighbor Frank Ranes, who was jailed on a shooting charge. the case coincides with the earlier shooting.

Matthews seeks a warrant against Officer Graham for assault and threats with a gun, to be filed at the September term. Meanwhile Samuel Schrader, arrested for intoxication, files an affidavit against Graham via attorney Mahoney in Judge Custer's court. Graham escapes arrest as attorney Jenkines enters appearance.
Patrolman Thomason arrested barber Richardson formerly with Kraut's after reports of an intoxicated man insulting women in Court Park. Richardson begged to be allowed home and was given the chance, with a warning that others muttering flip remarks will be arrested and not released.
The Cass County Horsethief Detective association will hold its annual meeting in Trades' Assembly hall Saturday morning and afternoon. A social event is planned and officers for the coming year will be elected.
Jacob Neff aged seventy years living two miles south of the city was knocked by a passing automobile at the south edge of town. His wagon wheel struck a telephone pole guy wire causing the wagon to overturn and Neff to be crushed beneath. He suffered bruises and lacerations to the hip face and head but is expected to recover. John Bailey of Indianapolis stopped to help and arranged transport, with Dr. Bradfield attending.
The Innes band canceled two Logansport Chautauqua concerts on Biddle's Island tomorrow, afternoon and night. The telegram from Prof. Innes said he would go directly to Detroit, leaving fans disappointed but no blame on the Chautauqua management.
A west bound Wabash freight on the passing track at Clymer's near Logansport derailed seven cars loaded with steel rails due to rail spread. Conductor Herberg’s train sent from Peru righted the cars. no passing trains were delayed.
Politicians from Marshall County anxiously await Judge Lairy’s decision in the state ex rel Frank Garn v William Hendrix case heard about a week ago. The dispute centers on the Marshall County Republican chairmanship and several candidates visited the courthouse today seeking word on the ruling.
