Justice of the Peace Davis, while riding near Edgewater West Virginia, found a young boy chained by an eight foot heavy chain attached to his leg. The child wore chain sores and carried buckets of water. The father named Samples said he used the chain to restrain the boy, who was chained day and night for months until a chisel freed him. A warrant was issued for the father.

Interurban Collision Near Peru Injures Motorman
A Saturday 9:15 am crash on the Indianapolis Northern line near South Peru involved a trolley pole breaking on a descending hill. While workers replaced the pole, an express car collided with the disabled car at a sharp curve. the motorman, conductor, and passengers were injured, and both cars were disabled. Mrs. William Brown of near Young America shot a hawk rising with a chicken snatched from the barnyard. Attracted by clatter, she fired a rifle as the hawk ascended. The hawk somersaulted and died on the ground. This is her second such kill.
