At the Noimest city convention held in the Elks hall, Magee was named chair amid a riot as Bliss faction members protested and clashed with the credential committee. The chaos followed a contested Third ward delegation battle and a disputed order of business.
Report from a Fifth ward convention shows clashes as Dan Loftus pushes for a new chairman and threats of walkouts. The clash among Fifth Bliss and other delegates culminates in a vote by precinct on adopting the credential committee report after a tense bargaining moment with Magee and Becker.
A petition filed with the county auditor requests a new bridge on the county line road between Cass and Carroll counties.
The Board of Public Works approved an electric arc light at Eleventh Street and Erie Avenue to illuminate a dark corner. It also ordered water mains extended on Grove Street to Tipton and on Tanguy Street to the first alley south, as graveling and guttering were recently completed. Water works crews work on Jones and Jenks addition for the carnival site next week. Collections totaled 72.05 by J. C. Sullivan and 1,052.38 by H. A. Brown the electric light clerk.
Frank G Keinley hosts a Sunday turtle soup feast for the Elks band members on Keinley Island. The group will perform a concert in the afternoon following the meal, as invitations go out to friends.
Cab driver Arthur McIntosh of O'Donnell Bros. reports a gold watch and chain missing while watching a parade Tuesday around noon. He cannot specify when between 11:25 and 12:00 the theft occurred.
The local Musicians' Union voted that no Elks' or Citizens' band member may donate services for Labor Day in Kokomo. Bands must be paid if they perform at Riverside Park, ending free concerts there, though practice in the park may still allow public enjoyment. The union, with broad membership, argues for full pay on all appearances.
George P. McKee, longtime Logansport mayor, declares another bid for mayor. He touts debt reduction of over 175000, cash surpluses at water and electric works, street and water system upgrades, police reform, and a promise of a clean business administration. He appeals to Republicans ahead of the September 2 convention.
Mark W. Collett of Michigan Avenue says he misplaced a pocketbook during a parade. The empty wallet was later found on Third Street.
Warren Wheeler was arrested last night on the charge of intoxication and arraigned in police court this morning. He paid a one cent fine plus costs and left the city.
A two and a half year old girl wandered away from home on High Street as Mrs. F C Murphy notified police. The child, named Jones, was found crying at Mrs Murphy’s house. Her parents live near Twenty Third and High. the father had been asleep when the child wandered off.
Rhaino Kuhn, previously held on a peace bond after his wife sought relief, was rearrested and bound over to the circuit court by Justice E B Graves. He posted $100 bond via Lee Crocket of Washington township amid claims of past beatings.
John Hensley aged sixty five died last night at his brother’s home in Peru after a prolonged illness He formerly lived in this city ran a dairy farm on the Murdock property at Twenty sixth and High streets He left twelve years ago and never married The remains will be brought to this city tomorrow at 11 10 and taken to Mt Hope for burial
