Jesse Cohen 23 a freight brakeman on the Panhandle died after being struck between cars in Panhandle yards last night. He lived only a few hours after being taken to hospital where doctors attempted to save him. Cohen resided in Alexandria with a wife and child. his parents will accompany the body for interment tomorrow morning.
City street department faces sharp criticism as rails lie on Broadway while repairs proceed. Despite intended tearing up for a new line, workers and a road roller fix the street, risking waste of time and funds. Critics urge shifting effort to other streets where results would be more valuable.
The National Association of Mexican War Veterans will hold its annual reunion in Indianapolis on September 16 and 17. The executive committee met at the Grand hotel with president H. T. Ogden of Cincinnati secretary J. C. Carlton of Bedford and Jason Dane of Indianapolis as local arrangements chair. The Commercial club and other groups may assist in welcoming the veterans.
Referee Swicert adjudicated two bankruptcy petitions. John C. Nelson of Jonesboro, a saloon keeper, shows liabilities of 4 563.78 and assets 563.03. An involuntary petition against Frederick Bechtel of North Manchester and his wife Amelia requires them to prepare schedules.
An affidavit filed in Justice Kloenne's court charges carnival attache John Lee with stealing a watch from Artie A. Silverlake, a carnival performer. The alleged theft occurred last night and Lee has not yet been arrested.
Ollie D. Herring seeks divorce from Herbert G. Herring on charge of failure to provide and cruelty. The couple married November 27, 1895 and separated August 14, 1902, then briefly reunited before final split July 11, 1903. The complaint notes a child and alleges cruelty and neglect.
Martin J. Bligh by attorney Charles E. Yarlett filed a suit against John Ludders seeking payment of 305.81 for rent of a saloon and associated liquors.

Indianapolis August 26 Governor Durbin faced a sharp rebuke from Judge Alfred in criminal court. The judge warned the governor to stay within the law and not infringe on another’s promised rights while the workhouse inmates dispute continues.
A wagon driven by McCaffrey fled onto Broadway near Twenty first street with a dirt cart, ran several blocks, breaking dishes and scattering groceries. Harness tore while no other injuries occurred as horses were brought under control.
James Maloney of this city received a telegram from his son James saying he had been shurt in a wreck and would return home. Maloney runs the heat department of the Wallace air wus. The accident reportedly occurred at Wheeling West Virginia.
Master Masons from Cass county and beyond packed the Masonic temple in Logansport for the 75th anniversary of Tipton lodge No 33 F and A M and Freemasonry in Cass county. The evening featured Masters degree work, a banquet for 420, a speech on Ancient Craft Masonry, and a history of Tipton Lodge tracing its 1828 origin to 307 members. Notable guests included James L. Glasscock, Gilbert Small, and Henry Merdhurst.
Will Simpson of Clay Township is confined to her home due to a fever, with no other illnesses mentioned. The report notes her condition and homebound status.
Police at Huntington arrested the Columbia City Giants and Van Buren baseball teams during the fourth inning at Brebaugh's park on the Ft. Wayne & Southwestern Traction line. The score favored Columbia City 5 to 1. Players posted $25 bonds for appearance at trial.

Preliminary hearing held before Mayor Vaughn for John Meeks charged with assault and robbery of Italian laborer Pantilio Dinti no. Dintino testified from Pittsburg and Musselman from Jeffersonville. Meeks bound over to circuit court in 1000 dollars. The hearing covered events on December 19, 1902 at a saloon on Fifth and Railroad streets.
The executive committee met at the Claypool hotel Indianapolis to organize sessions between Christmas and New Year. 1,238 members last year, with expected growth of at least 300 as prominent educators are invited to speak. J Moriarity of North Sixth Street is recovering after several days of illness.
Meeks is charged with assaulting Dintino and robbing him of 265 dollars and a watch after a drink. Dintino, Meeks, and Musselman testified as to the events near the Wa bash station. The case was bound over to the higher tribunal for further testimony.

Miss May Morningstar of New York, daughter of a champion billiard player, is ill at her grandmother's North Street home. Her father has traveled to Paris for international contests. The patient fell ill yesterday and is under the care of Dr. Jordan.
Union Traction officials led by J. T. McNary and Co. D. Emmons met in Logansport to review the line reconstruction. Horace Stilwell awaited McCulloch at Panhandle station, but McCulloch failed to arrive and no timetable was given.
R Cripe of Flora Indiana John Y V Kine a Cham paign Ill telegraph lineman and RE A Merritt of Washington Indiana have enlisted in the regular army and depart for Indianapolis with Lt Col James K E Macklin Third Infantry. They will be sent to posts for drilling before entering service. Recruiting agent Fred C Almy who operates in the Dowling and McHale building on Broadway has already secured seven local volunteers after perfect exams by Dr Dwight Powell and expects many more.
Peru Ind July 26 veteran editors from several papers including W W Lockwood Samuel P Winter H J McSheehy Howard Henderson Thad Butler and Reuben Williams have each served 25 years or more Williams is the state's oldest newspaperman Winter nearly fifty years and McSheehy about twenty eight years on one paper.

Walter Crisler a Galveston Huckster was injured when lightning struck near his wagon as he rode with Otto and William Becker returning from a river trip. The Becker brothers were knocked unconscious briefly but recovered. Ola Minneman of Crooked Creek was run over by a horse during the same storm.
Walter Crisler a Galveston huckster was severely injured Monday when his loaded wagon wheels ran over him. He lay unconscious, was taken to his Galveston home, medical aid summoned, and he is now getting along well.
Ola Minneman daughter of Mr and Mrs Chris Minneman of Crooked Creek was injured when a horse ran over her Friday. Dr Mayfield of Royal Center said no bones are broken and the child is recovering nicely.
While on a Saturday picnic in Galveston Mrs Alice Murphy fell and badly sprained her knee. The injury is proving very painful.
Miss May Jackson of 619 High Street was overcome by heat Monday evening around seven o clock. Dr J Z Powell attended her and she is now much improved.
National Organizer C. P. Smith praised Logansport business men for fair treatment of plasterers and bed carriers in a settlement of a dispute. He argued the same spirit of fairness in Marion could end tensions and sustain industrial harmony attracting statewide attention.
Evansville Indiana police announce prosecution of individuals known to possess stolen guns or pistols from hardware stores during the July riot. Authorities report 200 names on record and ongoing gun returns by mail or express. Unrecovered weapon value exceeds $2,000.
