William McClaeb was held to await the grand jury on a manslaughter charge in the death of Joseph Anceter. Bail of 700 dollars was not posted, and the judge, McGregor, said the State has a strong case and that McClaeb was the aggressor.
John Black and Marie Washinghimmer were arraigned before Judge Fender on a fornication charge. They pled guilty and received fifteen days in the county jail. The case drew strong local sentiment, with police noted guarding the jail. The sixteen year old girl claimed intoxication caused the act. Police observed activity at Canal street pantry before arrest.
Jessie Barron of Royal Center filed for divorce in circuit court through attorney Geo. W. Funk. She claims habitual drunkenness and cruel and inhuman treatment by her husband. Barron is described as a milliner and esteemed resident of Royal Center.

Officer Burk of Hammond Indiana traveled to the city this morning with a warrant for Merle Williams wanted for jumping a board bill. With Captain Stoltz of the Panhandle Williams was found at work in Panhandle shops and placed under arrest. He was escorted back to Hammond this afternoon.
An internal Vandalia notice bans on duty smoking or chewing tobacco for passenger train crews. Management states the company does not need any employees who smoke or chew while on duty, signaling swift dismissal for noncompliance. A general notice to agents conductors and brakemen states that inspectors at Butler Wabash Clumbers and New Haven will not be on duty hereafter and rules for car inspection by agents and train men are issued.
Employees of the Pennsylvania line report Dr. A. W. Tucker medical examiner for the Logansport division of the Pennsylvania Voluntary Relief association is at an Indianapolis hospital and rapidly improving.
John P. Smith, a farmer six miles north of town, was struck at the Kenneth crossing around 9 am. His wagon was hit by an approaching engine, one horse killed, another injured, and Smith left with a bad scalp wound and a wrenched shoulder. He was cared for by Drs. The Pern city council, despite Mayor Odum’s veto, passed an ordinance granting a franchise to Logansport and Wabash Valley Gas to operate in Pern at a maximum rate of $1 per thousand cubic feet. The old three cent per thousand foot city division was omitted. Odum favored a cheaper local gas option. The measure passed with only one dissenting vote.
A new corporation in South Bend Indiana plans to run passenger and freight service over country highways without tracks. Each car will house a gasoline dynamo to produce electricity and tow three freight cars with ten tons capacity. Passenger fares will start at one cent per mile with low proportional freight rates.
In Squire Reid's court G. Caruso sued Stubbs Marshall & Co. for 60 dollars. A bank deposit was seized but a will halted payment just after the constable arrived. the money had been sent an hour earlier.
