They fell into a deep seam in the rock and could not swim until Mr. Welsh using a bamboo pole reached them and lifte d them to shore with aid from L A Worley. Both boys recovered by evening.

Funeral for William R. Van Meter Held at Front Street Home
The funeral for William Roberts Van Meter took place yesterday at 3 p.m. from his residence at 214 Front Street. He was born December 24, 1822 in Ross County Ohio and died August 21, 1908 after a two year illness from a hip fracture. He married Elizabeth Walter on July 24, 1846 and they shared a golden wedding in 1896. The family includes five surviving children and four generations were present at the anniversary. He lived much of his life in Cass County and Logansport and joined the Crooked Creek Baptist Church forty two years ago.
